Uber Driver Bonus Guarantees – How They Work

Instead of a cash bonus, Uber guarantees that if you sign up with an Uber referral code and do a certain number of rides, you’ll make a certain amount for those rides (before Uber takes their cut).

For example, Uber may guarantee that you’ll make $500 for giving 60 rides. If you don’t, Uber will pay you the difference. Uber has not offered actual cash sign up bonuses of any kind since early 2017. While this makes the Uber sign up program a bit weaker than Lyft’s, Uber is still busier than Lyft in many markets. And you can still earn up to $25 per hour (sometimes more) if you sign up to drive for Uber. To see what recent Uber guarantees have been near you, click HERE or on the button below to see a list of Uber guarantees by city.

In any case, all the sites you’ve probably seen promising an Uber referral code that will get you $4,000 or $5,000 sign up bonus are totally wrong, outdated or just plain lying.

$2,900 is currently the highest available Uber sign up bonus guarantee, available in select cities. New Uber drivers usually must complete 350 or more rides in their first 90 days to qualify for the $2900 in guaranteed earnings. Usually, if you do more than 200 rides, you’ll likely beat the guarantee amount anyway. However, it’s good to sign up with one just in case.

Best Cities To Drive Uber

In terms of the best cities to drive, Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco are some of the best and highest earning places to drive for Uber.

How The Uber Invite Code Used To Work

For a number of years, the Uber sign up bonus or Uber invite code worked like this.

To become a driver in San Francisco, you would sign up using an Uber referral code. Uber might offer the new driver a $1000 bonus if they completed 150 rides in their first 60 days. This sign up bonus was on top of anything the Uber driver earned giving those 150 rides.

The Uber driver promo bonus amounts could range from $500 all the way up to $2,000. Los Angeles and San Francisco even had a $5000 Uber sign up bonus for a short while.

The ride requirements also varied. Some of the Uber driver promotions only required 50 or 100 rides, while others (like the L.A. and S.F. bonus above) required over 1,000 rides.

If the San Francisco Uber driver in the example above was full time, they could finish those 150 rides in a couple of weeks and go home with $3000 or more.

While those Uber sign up bonuses are long gone, Uber still offers a sign up guarantee of up to $2,000 in earnings.

Why The Uber Sign Up Bonus Changed

As it turns out, those generous Uber driver promos were costing Uber a lot of money, so they decided to switch to guaranteed earnings. The guaranteed earnings usually range from $300 to $2000. However, on rare occasions, Uber raises the sign up referral code amount. In 2018 & 2019, the Uber new driver promo for certain cities has reached $2,800 (Washington, D.C. and Boston for example).

How The Current Uber Sign Up Bonus And Uber Invite Codes Work

Instead of a cash bonus, Uber is now offering a guaranteed payout if you use an Uber invite code. For example, Uber may offer a new driver guaranteed earnings of $500 if a new driver completes 40 rides in their first 30 days.

If the new driver gives 40 rides and only makes $400, Uber will pay the driver $100.

The number of rides and the bonus amount varies by city. The higher the ride requirement, the higher the guarantee.

Recently, the most popular guarantee and ride amounts have been around $550 for completing 75 rides, or $1025 for completing 140 rides. Again, the number of Uber rides you must complete, and the time you have to complete the rides, varies by city

Recently, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Dallas, and upstate New York have had some of the higher Uber sign up bonus guarantees. But keep in mind, the Uber sign up bonus amounts change very frequently.

Beware False Claims About Uber Invite Code and Uber Driver Promo Amounts

Please be aware that if you see an Uber invite code that promises you $3000 or $5000, it’s fake, or will not be for that amount.

Many drivers are posting their Uber referral codes along with false claims about the amount of money new drivers can get from those referral codes. This leaves many new drivers feeling disappointed or ripped off when the actual sign up bonus/guarantee from Uber is much less.

We won’t make false claims about our Uber driver promos, sign up bonuses or guarantees. Instead, we’ll just tell you the truth about how the Uber

The Uber sign up bonus, which is now a guarantee, is based primarily on the city you drive in. Also, the guarantee amounts change frequently.

If you use our code (i9tz1) to sign up, not only do you get a sign up guarantee, Rideshare Central also gets a referral bonus if you complete the number of rides designated by Uber within a set period of time. Usually, our bonus is around the $50-$100 range.

If you sign up for Uber, but do not complete the set number of rides (usually within 30 days), we do not receive a referral bonus.

Should I Sign Up With A Higher Or Lower Uber Sign Up Guarantee?

Most of the time, the Uber sign up bonus guarantee is in the $300 – $800 range.  However, the Uber driver bonus guarantee in most cities tops out at $600. Even so, drivers have recently received $1,000, $2000, or even $2900 Uber guarantees in some cities.

That being said, it’s often a better idea to sign up with a lower Uber sign up guarantee ($300 – $600). The reason comes down to experience.

Pretty much all Uber drivers earn more after their first 100 rides, because the experience of those first 100 rides makes you a much better and more efficient driver. After 100 rides, a new Uber driver tends to complete more rides, and earn more, per hour. A new Uber driver is also far more likely to need the guarantee during those first 50 to 100 rides. Most of the smaller Uber guarantees are for 40 to 75 rides, so there’s a much greater chance of missing the guarantee amount during your first 100 rides.

The larger guarantees are usually for 200 or more rides. By that time, a new Uber driver is probably efficient enough to earn more than the guarantee amount. If the new Uber driver does that, they get nothing. On the higher guarantee amounts ($1000 or more), the driver almost always gets nothing because the number of rides required almost always means they’ll gross more than the guarantee amount. This is not the case with the lower Uber sign up guarantee amount. Many new drivers miss the smaller guarantee amounts and Uber makes up the difference. So, while the large $1300 Uber guarantee may be tempting, it’s often useless, and the $400 to $600 Uber guarantee is usually the better choice.

Is The Uber Sign Up Bonus Really Gone?

Yes, the uber sign up bonus is gone. Here’s an example of the page you’ll see if you go to sign up for Uber with a driver referral code.

Uber Sign up Bonus

Nothing about an Uber sign up bonus there. Instead, it says you’re “guaranteed $1,025 in total payout for your first 100 trips.” However, even though the page says you’re guaranteed $1,025, right afterwards it says, “Guarantee amounts vary and are determined by city.” Basically, the page could say you’re guaranteed $10,000, but until you fill in your information and start your application, you won’t know what you’re bonus is.

How much will your Uber sign up bonus guarantee be?

The amount of your Uber driver sign up bonus guarantee is determined by your city. The amount of the guarantees change frequently which is why it’s difficult to post an accurate and up to date list. We’ve posted a list of Uber sign up bonus guarantees by city below and we try and keep it updated. However, some cities have had their Uber sign up bonus change multiple times in a week. The only guaranteed way to find out what your Uber sign up guaranteed earnings amount will be is to sign up with a driver referral code.

Uber Sign Up Guarantee Bonus By City

Below is a list of the top current Uber sign up bonus guarantees and Uber driver promotions available in each city. The city you will be driving in is a main factor in determining the amount of your Uber sign up bonus guarantee. Also, the higher the guarantee amount, the more rides you have to give to fulfill the guarantee requirements. Click on any city name to start your Uber application.

Please note, when you click on a city name below, the guarantee amount shown on the first screen of the Uber application is an example guarantee – it may not be your guarantee amount. After you fill in your name, email, phone, AND DRIVING CITY, and click submit, you should receive an email (sometimes it takes a few hours) with your Uber driver earnings guarantee amount. It should be an amount anywhere up to the amount shown below.

Lyft Sign up Bonus Lyft Driver Promo Code
[/su_box]

As noted before, the best Uber driver promotions are offered either in large cities like Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, or in markets where Uber needs to recruit more drivers. These are generally where you see the guarantee amounts around $1000.  In order to be eligible for the Uber driver promo guarantee, you must sign up with an Uber driver promo code. If you do not enter the code when you apply, you will not be eligible for the Uber sign up bonus guaranteed earnings.

Using our Uber invite code is pretty easy. Simply click here to begin an application with our promo code (i9tz1).

Additional Information – The Uber Invite Code

Please keep the following in mind when applying for Uber:

  • You can only use one Uber driver promo code when signing up. No stacking of promo codes to increase your Uber sign up bonus is allowed.
  • After you are approved, you will receive your Uber sign up bonus guarantee once you have reached the required number of rides. If you earn less than the guarantee amount while completing your rides, Uber will credit your account the difference. So, if you’re guarantee is $1025 for 100 rides, but you only earn $900 for those rides, Uber will credit your account $125.
  • The Uber bonus terms are subject to change and not guaranteed.
  • If you do not enter an Uber driver invite code when applying, you will not earn a bonus.
  • As an Uber driver, you are subject to Uber’s Terms of Service.
  • Being approved for Uber takes anywhere from 1 day to a couple of weeks, sometimes longer.
  • Uber can deny an application for any reason.
  • When you are completing rides towards your guarantee, the ride only counts if it’s a different passenger. You can’t give 10 short rides to a friend to hit your guarantee.

Does it matter which Uber invite code I use?

No, it really doesn’t. It matters which city you’re driving in.

I would like to be able to tell you, “Yes, if you use our code i9tz1, you will get a $2,000 guarantee for doing 10 rides. Unfortunately, this is not the case. No matter what the Uber driver invite page says, the only surefire way to know what your guarantee will be is to sign up to drive.

How do I sign up for Uber using an Uber invite code?

Uber sign up bonus

Should i still sign up even though the Uber sign up bonus is gone?

If you’re looking for a way to make money and you think this job may be for you, then yes.

While you can’t get an Uber sign up bonus for $500 or $1500 anymore, you can still make $500 or $1500 per week by driving Uber. During busy hours, you actually can make $25 to $35 per hour in larger markets. There are usually about 20-25 busy hours a week. During the other hours, the range is more like $15 to $18 per hour.

Besides the money, it’s a pretty good gig. If you work in an office, surrounded by walls all day, driving for Uber gets you out in the world. You meet people from all walks of life, have interesting conversations, and see parts of your city you wouldn’t get to otherwise.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a job, but it’s a job where you have most of the control. You decide when you work, who you pick up, and with the destination setting (feature allows you to only take rides towards a specific destination), where you work. You also decide when you clock in and clock out.

Uber has made a number of changes recently that benefit drivers

I’ve been pretty critical of Uber in the past, but I believe in giving credit where it’s due. As part of their “180 Days of Change”, Uber has instituted a number of changes recently that have improved the lives of drivers. They still have more work to do, but the following changes are a good start.

      1. Uber no longer deactivates you for not accepting rides. They may send you emails about it, and if you don’t take 2 or 3 rides in a row, you’re generally put in a time out (no ride requests will come in) for 5-10 minutes, sometimes up to 30 minutes. But they won’t deactivate you. This means you don’t have to take UberPool rides (shared rides, lower fares)  if you don’t want to. Most drivers tend to have an acceptance rate above 85-90%, but I’ve seen some drivers with acceptance rates around 50 or 60%, and they’ve been driving for months. They will still deactivate you if you have a high cancellation rate.
    1. Uber now allows tipping in the app. Lyft has had this for a while, and Uber has finally caught up. Drivers keep 100% of all tips. How much can tips add to your pay? It varies. I’ve seen some drivers take home an extra 15% in tips and others who only take home an extra 5%. So far, it’s been all over the place, but it’s better than it used to be, which was 0%.
    2. Uber drivers can now call in for help. Before, you had to send messages to support in the app, and wait hours, or longer, for them to get back to you. Now, if a driver needs to get in contact with Uber, they can call and talk to a human being.

[su_box title=”Uber Drivers Can Now Call A Helpline” style=”soft” box_color=”#d1a927″ title_color=”#d1274f”]

Uber sign up bonus
[/su_box]

  1. Uber now allows drivers six destination settings per day. Say you want only want rides towards a specific destination, like the airport, or your home. You can set that address in the Uber driver app, and it will only give you rides in that direction. You can even set the time you want to arrive at your destination. Until a couple of months ago, drivers were only allowed to use this feature twice a day. Six times is more like it.
    1. Lyft allowed their drivers to use a similar feature three times a day. After Uber upped their limit to six, Lyft followed suit. So, if you drive for both Uber and Lyft, you can now set your destination twelve times a day. This is very helpful if you want to do a lot of lucrative airport rides.

Should i sign up for Uber if i already Drive With Lyft?

Yes. While most drivers prefer Lyft, it’s always good to have a backup in case you get deactivated from the Lyft system, even temporarily. This happened to a driver I knew. A passenger claimed she was driving under the influence (she doesn’t drink). When something like this happens, both Uber and Lyft will temporarily deactivate the driver for 48 hours while they investigate. She was reactivated 48 hours later, but that deactivation cost her a Power Driver Bonus that week. She’s now signed up for both Uber and Lyft.

Another reason to sign up for both is that every now and then, the Uber or Lyft systems may go out for a little bit. It doesn’t happen often, but when Lyft goes down, demand tends to go way up on Uber. Likewise, in the rare occasion of an Uber system crash, demand on Lyft skyrockets.

Uber Sign Up Bonus – New Uber Drivers Cash Incentives and Guarantees

Uber offers cash incentives during the week if a driver completes a certain number of rides. Generally, they offer a weekday incentive (Monday – Thursday) and weekend incentive. For example, Uber may offer a driver an extra $150 for completing 40 rides between Monday and Thursday, and an extra $180 for completing 55 rides between Friday and Sunday. They usually offer smaller incentives as well (20 rides for an extra $75) so part-time drivers are not left out.

How Much Can I Make Driving For Uber?

Driver Pay on Uber

While the average is about $15-$20 per hour, there is a lot of variation from driver to driver and city to city. Experienced, full-time drivers can make around $25 per hour in the larger markets. Experienced part-time drivers can make $25-$30 per hour if they only drive during busy hours.  If they’re on Uber Select, or Uber XL, they can make even more. If you’re just starting out though, a more realistic expectation is around $15-$18 per hour. If you’re only looking to drive ten busy (rush hour or weekend nights) hours a week, you can probably make a bit more.

Here’s what some drivers have been able to take home recently in one day and one week. Keep in mind, some of these drivers pulled long hours to reach these numbers, but they did it.

Top Cities For Uber Drivers

Los Angeles – The city of angels is one of the largest Uber markets in the world. Whether you’re driving someone to Disneyland or Dodger Stadium, you can count on doing a lot of rides in a city of 18 million people. It’s also home to LAX, a very busy airport. One Uber ride from LAX to Beverly Hills can net a driver $25 on UberX, or $50 on Uber Select. Recently, the Los Angeles Uber sign up bonus was $1,200 per week guaranteed if you drive for 50 hours.

Philadelphia – The city of brotherly love is home to the Liberty Bell, the Sixers and a couple million people who love to Uber. Even better, the Philadelphia Uber guarantee was recently $500 for 40 rides. An Uber ride from PHL to the University of Pennsylvania can net a driver $20-$24, or more with surge.

Chicago – The windy city is home to the World Champion Chicago Cubs and was one of the earliest Uber markets. Popular destinations for Uber passengers in Chicago include Navy Pier, The Lincoln Park Zoo, and The Magnificent Mile. Don’t forget, Chicago has two large airports. So if you sign up to drive for Uber in Chicago, expect to be doing lucrative airport runs from the loop to Midway and O’Hare.

Dallas – Whether you’re taking riders to AT&T Stadium to see the Cowboys, to the world class Dallas Arboretum, or to DFW, you can be sure you’ll learn your way around. And with plenty of business and tourism traffic, you can be sure you’ll be kept busy on your way to an Uber sign up bonus guarantee, which was recently $700 for 80 rides.

San Diego – If you drive for Uber in San Diego, you’ll definitely learn the shortcuts to the world famous San Diego Zoo. Also, people walk around El Prado, but the often take an Uber to get there. Same goes for Balboa Park. The last Uber sign up bonus I heard about in San Diego was $400 guaranteed for 45 rides.

Atlanta – Expect to be taking a few passengers to the new Mercedes-Benz stadium to see the Falcons if you drive for Uber in Atlanta. You may also wind up taking passengers to an amazing aquarium or the Center for Civil and Human Rights. Don’t forget, Atlanta has terrible public transportation, so also expect a number of lucrative trips to and from the Atlanta suburbs like Alpharetta.

San Francisco – San Francisco is the city where Uber started. If you drive for Uber in San Francisco, expect to be busy as you take riders to Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, or to a Giants game. You can also expect some lucrative trips to Sonoma, Napa, and Silicon Valley.

Uber Vehicle Requirements for 2018

Uber is very flexible in terms of the vehicle they allow, but there are a few Uber requirements that all vehicles must adhere to. If your vehicle does not meet these requirements, you may be approved to drive for Uber, but your vehicle will not.

You do not need to own a vehicle to drive with for Uber. However, if you do, these are the requirements.

  1. The vehicle must have a valid registration and a clean title. However, the vehicle does not have to be in your name.
  2. The vehicle must have four doors and a minimum of five seatbelts.
  3. The vehicle must be in good working order. Uber requires an annual vehicle inspection.
  4. The vehicle must be model year 2002 or newer for Uber. However, in some cities, the requirements are more strict. For Uber Select, Uber XL, and Uber Black, the requirements are also more strict, and vary by city.

If your vehicle does not meet these requirements, but you still want to drive for Uber, check out our Vehicle Financing page for ways to rent or purchase a vehicle for Uber, Lyft, or both.

Uber Driver Requirements for 2018

Make sure you meet these requirements in order to get your Uber driver sign up bonus.

There aren’t many requirements a driver must meet to driver for Uber, but there are a few. The Uber driver requirements help insure rider safety by adhering to rideshare industry standards in order to provide a safe experience.

These are the current Uber driver requirements as of 2019.

  1. You must be 21 years of age or older.
  2. You must have at least one year of driving experience, or 3 years if you are under the age of 23.
  3. You must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  4. You must use an eligible 4 door vehicle.
  5. You must consent to a background check

In addition to these requirements, you will also need a smartphone with an adequate data plan. Generally, a full time Uber or Lyft driver (40-50 hours per week) will use around three gigabytes of data per month. Part time drivers should be sure they have around one gigabyte of data available for rideshare use.

What is Uber?

Why Should I Drive For Uber?

Uber, and it’s competitor Lyft, have become the future of transportation. In the cities where Uber and Lyft operate, people who used to take cabs now use Uber or Lyft. People who used to take public transportation will often use UberPool or Lyft Line instead. Because both services partner with drivers who use their own cars, the service is friendlier and the cars are in better condition than most taxis.

Uber was founded in 2009 to provide this type of alternative transportation and now operates in over 700 cities in 84 countries across the world. Pretty impressive. Over 200,000 people now drive for Uber and with their driver sign up bonus guarantees, and their weekly driver incentives, this number is sure to keep growing.

While Uber has had its share of public relations troubles over the past year, the job itself is usually pretty great. For one thing, it is the most flexible job in the world. You can work as many, or as few, hours per week as you want. About 80% of Uber drivers are part time and many people have found that driving for Uber is a great way to bring in a couple extra hundred bucks a week. While drivers used to have to give 1 ride every 30 days to stay active, that is no longer the case.

Besides a great way to earn some extra cash, Uber is also a great way to learn your city, talk with interesting people, and even network. While not every rider wants to have a conversation, many do, and sometimes you wind up having a wonderful talk. If you have another business, in most cities, you can advertise that business in your vehicle. I’ve wound up picking up a number of web development jobs over the past three years while driving for Uber.

Sure, on occasion, you may have an unpleasant rider. But those occasions are pretty rare. In general, driving for Uber is a great way to make extra money, see your city, and have an occasional great conversation. If you’re full time, Uber is a great way to make about $1,000 per week, sometimes more.

Uber Insurance

Am I covered when I’m driving for Uber?

Uber’s insurance policy provides liability and contingent collision coverage. When you turn the app on, you have liability coverage through Uber in the amount of $25k/$50k and $25k for property damage. Once you accept a rider request, or have a rider in the car, Uber provides $1,000,000 liability and uninsured driver coverage, with a $1,000 deductible. For more on information on insurance coverage, please visit our Rideshare Insurance page.

Rideshare Central recommends purchasing a rideshare insurance policy for additional coverage and peace of mind while driving for Uber or Lyft.

Uber Driver Pay

How much are drivers paid and when are the best times to driver?

When considering whether you should sign up for Uber, don’t just consider the sign up bonuses or guarantees. You should also consider how much you can make during the busy hours. In many cities, the drivers who work during evening and morning rush hours and on the weekends can make up to $35 per hour. In general, the top times to drive for Uber during the week are between 6am and 9am, and 5pm and 8pm. During weekends, the best times to drive are between 6pm and 8pm, and between 10pm and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Uber drivers are paid on time and distance. Each ride has a base fare. Beyond that, drivers are paid a certain amount per mile, and per minute wait time. If a rider does not show up, a driver may cancel after five minutes and receive a $5 cancellation fee ($1.60 cancellation on Pool rides).

The Uber pay period begins at 4am on Mondays and ends at 4am the following Monday. Drivers receive a pay statement on Tuesday that includes driving activity from the prior week.

Uber also offers driver incentives weekday and weekend incentives. Drivers can use these incentives to increase their earnings by between $100 and $400. The weekday incentive may offer a driver an extra $150 if they complete 40 rides between Monday and Thursday. The weekend incentive may offer a driver and extra $200 if they complete 50 rides between Friday and Sunday.

Frequently Asked Uber Questions

When is the best time to drive?

Overall, weekends are the most lucrative. Not just weekend nights, the whole weekend. Also, traffic is lighter overall on weekends, so you get better mileage. Besides that, the morning and evening rush hours are where the most money is.

Do I have to give a minimum number of rides to stay active?

You used to have to give one ride every thirty days to stay active, but that is no longer the case.

Is one Uber sign up bonus code better than another?

Not really. The bonus tends to be based on the city you want to drive in more than the code.

How do Uber drivers get paid?

Uber drivers are paid weekly via direct deposit. Drivers can also cash out instantly during the week (multiple times).

When will I receive my Uber driver bonus?

Your Uber sign up bonus guarantee will be credited to your account after you complete the required number of rides.

Can I drive a vehicle with a salvage title for Uber?

No, all vehicles on the Uber platform must have a clean title.

Can I use another Uber driver promo code once I’ve completed the ride requirements?

No, but you will be able to use your own Uber invite code to refer other drivers.

Do I have to accept every ride?

No, Uber does not require a specific acceptance rate. However, Uber may deactivate you if you cancel too many rides. It’s better to not accept a ride, than to accept and then cancel.

How long do I have to wait for an Uber rider before cancelling?

If you wait five minutes and then cancel, you will receive a $5 cancellation fee. On UberPool, you only have to wait 2 minutes but the cancellation fee is only $1.60.

What is the difference between an Uber invite code, an Uber driver promo code, and an Uber sign up bonus code?

There is no difference. They’re the same thing.

Uber driver saving on gas.

10 Ways To Improve Your Lyft Or Uber Fuel Economy

How To Keep Your Gas Costs Down When Driving Lyft Or Uber

When it comes to Uber and Lyft expenses, buying gas is usually at the top of the list. While Lyft has recently started helping drivers out in the gas price department, it’s still important to improve your fuel economy whenever and wherever you can.

Gas prices move around a lot during the year, even from one day to the next. During the summer, gas prices tend to be higher. However, you may have noticed that while prices tend to drop in winter, your overall gas expenses aren’t always lower. The reason is that in winter (unless you live in a warm winter climate), average vehicles get 10%-22% worse mileage. If you have a hybrid, the drop off is over 30%.

Most of this has to do with environmental factors. When it’s cold, the air is denser which results in more drag, especially on the highway. Heating up your engine in the morning lowers your fuel economy. Also, cold air lowers your tire pressure, which increase rolling resistance. This not only lowers your mileage, but increases tire tread wear.

Cold weather also decreases battery performance. This is why hybrids get worse mileage in the winter. Hybrids use a regenerative braking system to increase mileage. Lower battery performance means the regenerative braking system doesn’t perform as well.

While these problems go away when it warms up, summer also brings higher gas prices. Most people assume it’s because people drive more. While people do drive more in the warmer months, that’s not why gas prices are higher.

Why Are Gas Prices Higher In Summer?

The reason has to do with the type of gas that is sold during different times of year. From mid-September to May 1st, gas stations sell a winter blend of gasoline. From May 1st to mid-September, they sell a summer blend. Gas prices are higher in the summer because summer blend gas is more expensive to make. However, the gas burns much cleaner than winter blended gas, which helps reduce pollution, and especially smog, during the summer months.

No matter what kind of vehicle you drive or what season it is, there are steps you can take to squeeze more miles out of every single gallon you buy.

Gas Saving Tips For Uber And Lyft Drivers

Some of these fuel saving techniques are simple and easy. You may already be doing some of them. Others will take some effort and a bit of investment upfront. The good news, however, is that these small investments now can pay big dividends in the future, saving you far more in fuel, keeping your engine healthy, and helping you drive more efficiently.

  1. Lighten the load. This is perhaps the simplest way to save money on gas. Every pound you remove from the trunk and passenger cabin is one less pound you have to haul around, so clear out some space and enjoy a more fuel efficient ride.
  2. Reset your gas cap. If your gas cap is loose or not properly seated, you are allowing gas fumes to escape into the air. This will reduce your fuel economy. Take a few minutes to check the seal on your gas cap, tightening it until it clicks into place.
  3. Don’t let your car idle too long and don’t drive around unnecessarily. If you don’t have a passenger in the car and you’re in an area where you’re likely to get a request, pull over and turn the car off if you can (parking lot or standing zone).
  4. Let your car drift up to stop signs. Instead of stepping on the brakes when you get there, let your car slow down as you approach the stop sign. You will use less fuel and experience less wear and tear on your brakes. It also makes for a smoother ride for passengers.
  5. Accelerate slowly. When you stop at a stop sign or red light, pull out slowly and cautiously. Slower and more careful acceleration are better for your safety – and your fuel economy.
  6. Watch your speed. Driving too fast can really take a toll on your fuel economy, so stick to the speed limit.
  7. Use cruise control where you can. Driving at a consistent speed is good for your fuel economy, so use your cruise control whenever it is practical to do so. If your car is equipped with adaptive cruise control, you may be able to engage it even while driving in heavy traffic.
  8. Use the right oil. Simply using the proper weight oil can reduce your fuel consumption, so check your owner’s manual and stock up on the right oil. Be sure to change the oil at the recommended intervals – doing so retains the lubricating qualities your engine needs. You may even want to consider switching to synthetic oil. Synthetic oil cause less wear and tear on the engine (less friction), which will keep your engine healthier longer.
  9. Buy a tire pressure gauge and keep your tires inflated. Driving on under-inflated tires is dangerous, and also bad for your fuel economy. Keep your tires properly inflated – and check the pressure every time you gas up.
  10. Change your air filter. A dirty air filter will make your engine less efficient, and that means lower fuel economy. Check your air filter regularly, and get a new one if it is clogged or dirty.

Also, consider getting a Costco membership and download the free GasBuddy app. While the Costco membership costs $60, buying gas there can save you up to $0.30 per gallon. You can use the GasBuddy app to find the cheapest gas around your location.

If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or a delivery service like Doordash or Postmates, it’s important to keep your expenses in check. Utilizing these tips can help you do just that, and drive profitably.

Buying A Used Car For Rideshare And Delivery

What To Look At When Buying A Used Car For Lyft, Uber, Or Delivery

The inspection of a used car is an essential, if sometimes daunting, step in the buying process. The close assessment of vehicles with previous owners can reveal hidden problems that would potentially influence your final purchasing decision so it’s important you take the time to inspect it properly. Luckily, it’s simpler than you may think and by following these five steps you can put a used car to the test and accurately judge whether it’s the right vehicle for you.

Bodywork

As soon as you approach the vehicle you can start assessing its condition. Walk around the outside and check the paintwork from multiple angles for dents, scratches or signs of rust. Blemishes on the bodywork can sometimes be indicative of a larger problem, but if it’s purely cosmetic it can still be expensive to fix.

Pay close attention to the individual body panels. Even the slightest difference in color or shade between them may be a sign that one has been replaced, probably after a crash, and could require further investigation. Inconsistently sized gaps between panels can also indicate that repairs have been poorly executed.

Engine

You don’t need to be a mechanic to effectively assess the health of an engine. Before doing anything else, feel the engine hood for warmth. If it’s giving off heat, it may have been started before you arrived in an attempt to disguise a technical issue.

Check the oil by lifting the dipstick from its housing. If the oil itself is very dark it could be a sign of poor or infrequent maintenance. Lift the oil filler cap and ensure there are no white deposits on the lid as it could indicate an even more serious issue.

Look closely at every inch of the engine for signs of leaks or excessive rusting. Any brown stains or light, chalky residue could be signs of oil and water leakages, respectively. The purpose of checking the engine on your visit is to gain a brief overview of the vehicle’s health rather than carrying out a complete mechanical assessment.

Paperwork

The vehicle’s paperwork includes all registration documents, servicing records and maintenance certificates. Check that the details in the paperwork exactly match the identifying information of the vehicle.

The more information the seller can supply in the form of service history, the more confident you can be in the purchase. Ideally, they will provide a binder full of receipts for all repair works done. Service reports will normally have a log of the mileage so you can cross-reference it with what you already know about the vehicle’s history.

Finally, check that any legal certificates are valid and have not expired. Be aware of any advisory issues that may have been raised in the inspection documents as it may impact your use of the vehicle in the near future.

Test drive

Take the vehicle for a test drive. The car should start easily and without hesitation, even with a cold engine. When you pull away, work your way through the gears steadily, taking note of the smoothness and ease of the action. Plan a route that includes several different driving scenarios so you can test the vehicle more effectively.

You should aim to experience how the car performs in a variety of situations so that you can identify any issues it may have. Take a road with a lot of twists and turns to check the handling and a long straight road to check the tracking. Sit in traffic to gauge its performance with frequent stops and starts and hit the open road to judge its higher-end performance. Make a mental note of any odd noises or vibrations so that you can bring them up later in your discussions with the seller or your own mechanic.

Time

The most important aspect to consider when testing a used car is that you don’t have to rush. Allow yourself plenty of time for the search so that you’re not pressured into any purchase. There are many great vehicles available to purchase at any one time so you always have other options. View as many as you can to facilitate the best and most objective decision possible.

The more vehicles you view, the more you’ll become aware of what constitutes a good deal. With more information on the market at your disposal, you’ll be better placed to negotiate a lower price.

Create a list of things to check and take the time to work through it. Don’t feel pressured by salesmen or other factors and walk away if they try to rush you. Buying a vehicle is a decision that will have a huge impact on your life for the foreseeable future so it’s important you feel comfortable when making your deliberations. By knowing what to look for and planning ahead, you’ll be able to buy the most appropriate car for your needs at the best price possible.

UberPool - What is Uberpool and Express Pool

UberPool and Uber Express Pool: Save Money By Sharing Your Uber Ride

Everything You Need to Know About UberPool

Uber has made travel easier than ever before. At the click of a button, you’re able to secure a ride to any destination in your area. One of the company’s offerings, UberPool, further extends the rideshare giant’s reach. This style of transportation is affordable as well as convenient. If you’ve never used Uber Pool before, take a closer look at what you need to know about it below.

What Exactly Is UberPool?

UberPool is one of the most efficient and affordable ride options offered by Uber. Unlike UberX, the service is inspired by a traditional carpool in which multiple people in the same area share a ride. However, with Uber Pool, you get to select your pickup and drop off location from the app and the service automatically configures the best route to meet the needs of multiple riders. By sharing your ride, you’re able to reduce your travel costs substantially. Here’s a quick UberPool video walkthrough from Uber India (the service works the same everywhere though).

Unfortunately, UberPool isn’t available in all locations. The only way to know if it’s an option for you is by going through the process of requesting a ride. If it isn’t listed as one of the ride styles, then it’s not available in your area.

Pros and Cons of Using UberPool

UberPool offers many advantages, but it’s unlikely to completely replace the traditional UberX ride options. Here are some of the pros and cons of this rideshare service:

Pro: Cost

Sharing your journey with other riders is incredibly cost-effective. Uber designed the service so that the operational costs for drivers are much lower and the overall cost is split between multiple riders. This method allows them to provide the service for much less than traditional Uber offerings. If you’re budget-minded, then UberPOOL should jump to the top of your list of travel options.

Pro: Safety

UberPOOL drivers undergo the same background checks and vetting process as other Uber drivers. Riders are also monitored. While you may be sharing a journey with strangers, there are accountability measures in place that don’t exist with traditional public transportation options, like buses and subways. This arrangement gives riders and drivers alike peace of mind during rides.

Pro: Convenience

Compared to other forms of transportation, UberPOOL is extremely convenient. You can order a ride at the click of a button instead of waiting for a scheduled train or bus. Plus, you’re still picked up and dropped off at your desired location, so you won’t have to walk to get to your destination.

Con: Journey Time

While the process is convenient, Uber Pool trips will take longer than other rideshare options. The slight detours involved to pick up multiple passengers as well as the waiting period for each person to arrive increases the overall journey time. If you’re in a rush, UberPool may not be the best option for you.

Con: Seating Restrictions

Another disadvantage of UberPool is the seating restrictions. Typically, you can ride with three to four other people you know, but this doesn’t work well with the design of UberPool. Instead, you can only book two seats in the vehicle at a time. If you’re traveling with more than one person, an UberX or UberXL is a better option.

Con: Locked Route

With other Uber ride options, like UberX, you can add stops along your journey to pick up a friend or drop off an item. To keep the prices down and avoid inconveniencing other riders, your UberPool route is locked from the get-go. This makes it challenging if you have errands to run back-to-back because you’ll have to order a ride multiple times.

What’s the Difference Between Regular UberPool and Uber Express Pool?

Express Pool is technically an offshoot of UberPool. The service is still reflective of the carpool model, but it’s a more efficient process. Similar to a bus route, Uber Express Pool creates a central meeting and drop-off location for multiple Uber riders in the same area. While you’ll still be riding with other people, you won’t face as many detours along the way. You also won’t face the additional wait time for each pickup.

Uber Express Pool Vs. Uber Pool
Uber Express Pool - Walk To Pickup
Uber Express Pool - Benefits

Some of the benefits of opting for Uber Express Pool include:

  • Savings: The streamlined process of Uber’s Express Pool service allows you to save even more money than you would with a traditional UberPOOL.
  • Shorter journeys: Since your Uber driver doesn’t need to make as many stops or detours, you ride is completed much more quickly.

The only real downside to Express Pool is walking to and from the designated meeting points, but this is only a disadvantage if you’re uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the area. In such a situation, simply choose the option with which you’re the most comfortable.

How to Request an UberPool Journey

UberPool - How To Use UberPool

How It Works

  1. Enter your destination
  2. Select the ‘uberPOOL’ option and tap ‘Request uberPOOL’
  3. Choose your pickup location and confirm
  4. Choose how many seats you need. Tap ‘1’ if you’re riding solo, and ‘2’ if you need a seat for your friend!
  5. Check your trip fare upfront for the ride
  6. Confirm your seats and you’re ready to go!

You can request an UberPOOL or Express POOL ride in the exact same way that you request any other Uber service option. After you’ve entered the pickup and drop off location in the app, you’ll simply toggle over and tap “UberPOOL” or “Express POOL” among the ride selections.

Uber Express Pool Request Ride
UberPool Ride Request

For the express option, you’ll be given a prompt to wait while they determine the right pickup spot based on other riders. Once it’s chosen, you’ll be directed where to go to meet the other riders to wait for your driver.

Unlike sharing an Uber ride with friends, you don’t need to send invitations out to your fellow riders. You also won’t have to choose any additional options after requesting your ride, which makes the process incredibly user-friendly. You still have the option to rate your driver as well as reward them with a tip after your journey.

What Drivers Need to Know About UberPool and Express Pool

Riders aren’t the only ones affected by UperPool and Express Pool; the service also differs from traditional Uber rides for rideshare drivers.

Here’s a closer look at some of the advantages and the one disadvantage of driving UberPool and Express Poll.

Achieve Less Downtime

As an Uber driver, as long as you have a passenger, you’re making money, and with the carpool options, you’re able to service more riders. When people in the area request an UberPool or Express Pool, the app will automatically add them to your route. As a result, you’re not missing out on valuable rides and you’ll spend less time waiting for your next trip.

More Consistent Earning Opportunities

While passengers are able to pay reduced costs, Uber drivers are likely get more trips with UberPool and Express Pool. Less downtime means that you’re able to serve more riders, and in turn, you’re able to make more money. Plus, if a rider doesn’t show up at a designated stop, you only have to wait two minutes before moving on to the next rider. They’re automatically charged a cancellation fee, so you’re still compensated for your time.

Hands-Off Navigation for Multiple Riders

Uber also eliminates the stress of navigating for multiple riders. The app automatically sets the pickup and drop off spots as well as the order in which they take place. This means that you can skip the stress of self-navigation and simply follow the directions of the in-app navigation tools.

UberPool and Express Pool Pay Less

This is the big disadvantage to taking Uber Pool rides if you’re a driver. The rides pay less per mile, and overall. Because of the additional stops, they also take longer to complete. Although UberPool and Uber Express Pool have become popular with riders, many drivers hate them. Some Uber drivers even refuse to take UberPool or Uber Express Pool rides unless they are trying to complete a bonus or quest requirement, or there is surge pricing in effect.

In addition to the pay issues, Uber also had a problem with UberPool riders rating drivers lower than passengers taking UberX. Uber recently addressed this issue by changing the UberPool rating system.

Take Advantage of UberPool’s Benefits

Both UberPool and Express Pool offer perks, so in the end, both riders and drivers win. If you’re new to the rideshare world and ready to try it out, use our Uber promo code to save up to $20 on your first few Uber rides.

Uber Application - Driver Approved To Drive

How to Ace Your Uber Application

How to Ace Your Uber Application

Uber is one of the most popular rideshare companies on the planet. With more than 600 cities in their operations, they’re continuously expanding and widening their market, which has created a need for more and more drivers. If you’re ready to become a rideshare driver, you’re probably unsure of the next steps you should take. Well, this is your lucky day! This guide outlines everything you need to know about acing Uber’s application.

What You Need to Know Before Completing the Uber Application

As an Uber driver, you’ll have the opportunity to make your own schedule and set your own financial goals. Essentially, there aren’t any limitations on your income because you’re in charge of when you work. However, the company doesn’t hire just anyone. Before you move forward with your Uber application, take a closer look at the company’s driver requirements.

Driver Requirements

Even though each driver in Uber’s fleet operates as an independent contractor, each driver represents the Uber brand, thus affecting their image and potential profits. As a result, Uber has various standards in place for drivers that want to register for their service. To meet their requirements, you must fit the following criteria:

  • Age: To drive passengers for uber, you must be at least 21 years of age at the time you submit your application. If you don’t meet the age requirements, they won’t consider you for an UberX or UberBlack position, regardless of your experience or fantastic driving history.
  • Experience: You also need to have an up-to-date license. Applicants under the age of 23 need at least three years of on-the-road experience, which is verified simply based upon the length of time you’ve had your license. For drivers over the age of 23, you only need a driving record of one year.
  • Driving Record: Your driving record will need to be clean as well. Uber allows applicants to have accrued up to three tickets over the last year, but you can’t have any at-fault accidents or serious traffic violations on record. Drivers are also rejected if Uber discovers a history of DUIs or DWIs on your record.
  • Background: While a few infractions on your driving record won’t eliminate you from the applicant pool, a criminal history will. Uber doesn’t hire rideshare drivers who have violent crimes on their record. Any non-violent felonies must be at least seven years old.
  • Uber Delivery Requirements: You must be at least 19 with a personal license to do Uber delivery by car. Your car can be a two or four door vehicle. To do Uber delivery by bike, you must by at least 18 years old and have a bicycle.

Vehicle Requirement

Since you’ll utilize your own vehicle for rides, your car or SUV needs to meet the company’s criteria as well. Uber’s vehicle requirements include:

  • Insurance: All vehicles are required to be insured with an active policy in place. If you are using someone else’s policy, you must be listed as a driver. The minimum coverage allowed is specific to the laws in your state. While Uber doesn’t require their drivers to purchase additional protection, you should consider purchasing rideshare insurance to ensure you’re properly safeguarded.
  • Registration: Your vehicle also needs a current registration, and salvaged or rebuilt titles aren’t allowed. However, the vehicle doesn’t have to actually be in your name.
  • Age: Only vehicles under 15 years of age qualify for rides. Newer options may qualify for higher Uber tiers, which are associated with more earnings.
  • Features: Your car needs to have at least four doors and seating for four passengers. It must also be in good shape, at least cosmetically, without significant rust or damage present.

The Documents You Need

Part of the verification of your Uber application requires specific documentation that proves your eligibility. These documents include:

  • Driver’s license
  • Proof of insurance
  • Vehicle registration

To digitize these items, you can scan them into your computer or take a photo with your phone. Be sure to gather all the records ahead of time to ensure you can complete your Uber application without any problems.

How to Complete Your Uber Application

Fortunately, Uber makes their driver application incredibly simple and self-explanatory. As long as you’ve gathered all of the correct information before you start, the actual process of applying will go quickly. The first step in the Uber application is visiting their sign up page. If you join using a referral code, you can get an earnings guarantee of up to $2000. For more information about Uber sign up guarantees, visit our Uber sign up bonus page.

Uber Application Choose Service

After vehicle verification, it’s time to get personal. The next page requires that you provide your social security number in the designated boxes, but don’t worry — the page is secure and encrypted. After your social security information, you’ll hit “Continue” and be directed to the background check screen. Now, you’ll need to read and agree to the consent form before moving on in the Uber application.

You know those documents that we mentioned earlier? It’s time to upload them. The application will prompt you to upload each one, so pay attention to which option it’s requesting at the time.

Now… you’re done! Well, sort of. You be sent a link to download the Uber driver app, and then it’s simply a waiting game while your background check clears. After you’re approved, the only thing left for you to do is schedule a vehicle inspection with one of Uber’s auto shop partners.

Tips for Acing Your Uber Application

It takes most individuals less than an thirty minutes to complete the Uber application, but just because it’s quick, doesn’t mean that it’s not stressful. Here are a few tips to ensure you’re setting yourself up for success:

Make Sure You Meet the Requirements Ahead of Time

While the Uber application itself doesn’t take long, you don’t need to waste your time on filling out the application if you don’t qualify. Check all of the requirements before you begin to ensure that Uber is the right fit for you. If you don’t fit the criteria for being an UberX or UberBlack driver, you can still qualify for Uber Delivery. Uber’s delivery drivers have less strict requirements in place, so you should also consider looking into that position.

Provide the Right Information

Even if you meet all of their standards, you won’t get hired if you don’t provide them with the correct information. Be sure to use your full, legal name when completing your Uber application or it could hinder your approval. Also, double check your documents when you upload them to ensure that you’re providing the right files and that none of them have expired.

Upload Clear Images

When taking photos or scanning your documents, make sure that the results are easy-to-read. For instance, every section of the image should be clearly visible. If you’re capturing copies from your phone, allow the camera to adjust correctly before snapping the shot. This step will prevent pixelation and blurriness.

Acing Your Uber Application

The Uber application process usually offers a fairly quick turnaround, so you should know if you’re joining the fleet within a few weeks at the most. If you’re ready to apply, don’t forget to use our unique promo code – i9tz1 – so that you can become eligible for guaranteed earnings! Uber Customer Service – How Uber Riders Can Contact Uber

Both passengers and drivers alike want the simplest way to contact Uber support for assistance, but the task isn’t as straightforward as you’d imagine. The rideshare company has utilized a variety of techniques and contact platforms over the years, including direct email and click-to-chat, but only a few options remain. Continue reading to figure out which contact method matches your Uber customer service needs.

Uber Customer Service for Riders

For Uber customers, there are three main ways to contact customer service:

  • Over the phone
  • Online
  • Through the app

All of these options will help you connect with a passenger support member, but there are set protocols for the type and severity the of situation you’re dealing with. Take a closer look at each, below.

How to Reach Uber Customer Service By Phone

While the easiest way to reach Uber is through the app, sometimes that’s not possible.

Often, people need to contact Uber to retrieve a lost item. But what if that lost item is your phone. Then you have no way to access the app. In that case, first try using a friend’s phone to call the Uber support phone number.

However, you may not be able to get through on that line (it doesn’t always work). If that’s the case, simply follow the instructions below

How To Reach Your Uber Driver If You Left Your Phone In The Uber

If you left your phone in the Uber, visit the phone recovery page on the Uber site and follow these steps.

  1. Scroll down on the page and sign in to your Uber account.
  2. Then enter a friend’s phone number who is with you. Tap submit. You must be signed into your account.
  3. Uber will call the number you enter to connect you directly with your driver’s mobile number.

How to Reach Uber Customer Service Online

While the company tried out email and chat support, it has since eradicated these customer service options from its roster. The only time you’ll communicate by email with Uber support is after you submit an inquiry from their website.

To reach the customer service team, you need to visit Uber’s online help center. This section of their website allows you to access your account information as well as browse a variety of how-to articles to troubleshoot your issue. The best way to actually reach a person is to search for a guide that matches your specific problem. After you click on it, scroll down until you reach the contact form in the article. After they receive your inquiry, they’ll respond by email.

Passengers can also reach Uber customer service via Twitter and Facebook. The company has multiple Twitter handles, but for expert assistance, you should use @Uber_Support. This page is dedicated solely to helping customers with non-emergency issues, and it’s consistently active. On Facebook, you can send a message directly to them through messenger or by clicking “Send Message” on their profile.

Uber Customer Service Contact

On social media, you shouldn’t expect an individual response every time. For problems affecting multiple clients, like an outage, their customer service team will send out updates with general tweets or posts instead of addressing each person individually. If the situation isn’t widespread, then you may receive a reply or direct message detailing the next steps you need to take. This process can take around 24 to 48 hours.

How to Access Uber Customer Service Through the App

Reaching the customer service team through the Uber rider app is similar to the process on their website. You’ll need to choose the “Help” category from the main menu. Instead of browsing article categories, you can report an issue directly from the trip log. Here’s a walk through of how to use the app to contact an Uber support agent.

How to Resolve the Most Common Uber Customer Issues

If your issue doesn’t fall into the emergency category, your best shot at receiving assistance is through their app or online help center. Fortunately, if your issue is a common one, it’s much easier to rectify it. The two most common problems passengers experience are lost items and charge inaccuracies. Here are the most efficient ways to fix both of these issues.

Rectifying Overcharges or Requesting a Refund From Uber

Since you’re automatically charged after your ride is over, there’s no way for you to question a trip charge or usage fee before you pay. As a result, you need to contact the Uber support team to have the issue reviewed as soon as possible.

Uber customer support in app trip issue 1

To do this in the app, you need to open the “Help” tab from the main menu. From there, you’ll choose the most recent trip, which will bring up a button that reads, “Report an issue…”. Tapping it will reveal a list of potential issues including, “I had an issue with my fare”—click that option. The app will then request that you enter any details regarding why you think the charge is incorrect, and upon submission, it’s sent to an Uber customer service agent for review. A team member will then contact you via message through the app.

Uber customer support in app trip issue 2

You can also accomplish this task by using Uber’s online customer service center. First, you’ll need to log in. Next, choose the ‘Trip issues and refunds” tab at the top and select the ride from your trip history. To access the message feature, you need to choose one of the articles that pops up on the page that relates to your problem, i.e, something to do with “fares” or “receipts.” Once you click an article, you’ll then have the ability to send a message to the Uber customer service team. This contact option is typically associated with an email response from a representative.

Retrieving a Lost Item From an Uber Ride

Just as you can easily drop something in your own vehicle, you can lose it in an Uber. If the driver notices the left behind item before you, they will contact the customer service team through the driver app, who will in turn contact you. However, the busy schedule of many drivers means that you’ll probably notice you’ve lost something before they do.

To retrieve your belongings, you should contact the Uber support team in the same manner outlined above. Instead of choosing the fare option in the app, you’ll click “I lost an item.” The same verbiage is used on their website. After the team receives your message, they’ll contact the driver to arrange a meeting for you to retrieve the object.

Uber “Customer” Service for Drivers

Uber offers more direct support for their drivers. Not only can you access the partner-equivalent of the Uber customer service team through the app and online, but you also have the ability to speak with a human representative over the phone. Here’s a closer look at how drivers can reach Uber support.

How Uber Driver Can Reach Uber Support Directly By Phone

Unlike their customer service phone options, Uber drivers can reach assistance with a few taps inside of their app. To locate support, open your driver app and open up the “Account” section. Next, click on “Help” and you’ll see a phone icon in the upper righthand corner. Simply tap the icon and then click “Call Support” to be connected with an expert.

For emergencies, utilize the same number as passengers: (800) 353-UBER.

How to Reach Uber Support Online and Through the Driver App

As with passengers, you can also get help in the form of messages online and through the Uber app. On both platforms, you’ll need to jump through some hoops to obtain support access by navigating through your account options.

For the app, access the “Help” tab. From here, you’ll select the “Trips and Fare Review” option under where it says “Report an Issue.” Choose the trip on which the problem occurred and pick the problems from the menu provided. If you don’t find what you need, you should call the general support line directly.

The Best Way to Reach Uber Customer Service

Uber doesn’t make it quite as easy as traditional companies to reach their customer service team, but they do try to streamline the process by limiting the contact points. They also try to get ahead of the issue by providing numerous guides and how-tos on their website. For riders, the articles in their help section are the best place to start because they’re quicker than waiting for an answer. However, if you can’t find what you’re looking for, send in a service request as soon as possible.

Quickstart Guide To Bird Scooters: How To Rent And Charge

Your Thorough Guide to Bird Scooter Rentals

The bikeshare industry is evolving, and electric scooters are an obvious next step in that evolution. There are a few different scooter rental companies that have entered the market in recent months, and one of the most successful is Bird. The company offers opportunities for riders as well as individuals who want to boost their income. Take a closer look at the company, what they offer, and how you can be a part of it, below.

Everything You Need to Know About Bird Scooter Rentals

Bird scooters have grown quickly in popularity, but electric scooter rentals are a very new service. As a result, most people don’t know much about Bird or how their rental services work. Here’s everything you need to know about becoming a Bird scooter rider:

What Are Bird Scooters?

Founded in 2017, Bird specializes in electronic scooter rentals only. Through Bird’s app, riders can locate available scooters in their area and rent them for easy traveling. The equipment is dockless, so you’re able to ride right up to where you’re going and leave the scooter at your destination, instead of finding a charger dock.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Bird Scooter?

Bird offers a very straightforward pricing arrangement. There’s an initial $1 fee for each electric scooter rental, and then you’ll pay 15 cents for every minute you use the scooter. Considering the speed and convenience of Bird’s scooter rentals, the combination of base fare and per minute fee results in a highly affordable mode of transportation for short trips.

What Are the Benefits of Bird Scooters?

Electric scooters are a fantastic way to get through your city. Choosing to travel by Bird electric scooter offers many benefits, including:

  • Convenience: The Bird scooter app makes it incredibly easy to find scooters near you, and the unlocking process is quick and painless.
  • Speed: Bird scooters are designed to reach speeds of up to 15 mph, which means you can get where you’re going quickly.
  • Affordability: Bird scooter rentals are also inexpensive. Considering their speed and availability, riders are able to reach the destinations quickly, which keeps their overall costs low.
  • Eco-Friendliness: The scooter rentals are also an eco-friendly transportation option. They run on electricity, which is associated with lower carbon emissions than gas or diesel. The equipment is also designed to operate efficiently, so no energy is wasted.

With so many benefits, foot transportation could become a thing of your past.

Where Are Bird Electric Scooters Available?

The electric scooter rental scene is fairly new, so it’s no surprise that Bird is only available in a few locations. However, the success of their current operation areas is leading the company to expand rapidly. As of today, Bird electric scooters are available in the following cities:

  • Scottsdale
  • Tempe
  • Austin
  • Dallas
  • San Antonio
  • Oakland
  • San Diego
  • San Jose
  • Los Angeles
  • Atlanta
  • Indianapolis
  • Baltimore
  • Charlotte
  • Memphis
  • Salt Lake City
  • Arlington
  • Washington D.C.
  • Milwaukee

As you can see, the majority of their operational centers are in large metropolitan areas. In the near future, you can expect to find Bird in major cities all over the country. Smaller cities and college towns are likely to be in the second round of expansions after Bird enters each state.

How to Rent a Bird Electric Scooter

Bird Scooters - Find a Bird Nearby

Renting a Bird scooter is fairly easy. First, you need to download the Bird app, which is available on the iTunes store and Google Play. After you open the app, it’ll prompt you to create an account. You’ll also need to enter your payment information before accessing the service. You’ll find this option at the top of the main menu. To get started with a free ride on Bird (up to $5), click the button below.

Join Bird

On the main page of the app, you’ll see a map that indicates your position in relation to nearby scooters, or “Birds,” as the company calls them. You’ll also be able to view the current battery level of each scooter before you choose one.

Bird Scooters - QR Code Unlock

After you’ve located a scooter nearby, you tap the symbol on the screen to choose it. Then you’ll focus your phone camera on the QR code, which is located on the handlebar, to verify the scooter, before hitting “Unlock.” The first time you utilize a Bird scooter rental, the app will also require you to take a picture of your driver’s license.

Once your scooter is rented, it’s time to ride. On the left side of the handlebar, you’ll see the brake handle, and on the right side, a throttle button. To start the system, you’ll use foot power. Three strong pushes will wake up the scooter, and then the rest of the power is provided by the throttle button. Be sure to only operate the scooter in bike lanes and not on sidewalks.

After completing your journey, tap the “Lock” button in the Bird app. You can park the scooter with the kickstand and leave it near the entrance of your destination. It’s best to avoid blocking walkways and sidewalks, so look for a safe location that’s easy to access for other riders.

Everything You Need to Know About Being a Bird Charger

Since Bird’s electric scooters are dockless, they need to be charged regularly. To aid in this effort, the company employs contractors known as “chargers.” Chargers operate as independent contractors and are responsible for Bird scooter charging on a daily basis.

What Bird Chargers Do

Bird chargers utilize the app to locate scooters in their area, and then they collect them for charging. There isn’t a central docking station, so each charger takes the machines home with them to charge overnight. The scooters require a special charger that connects to a standard outlet, but the company will provide these to you once you join their team.

The company sorts scooters throughout a city by creating a “nest,” which is a specific location with expected high demand. After the equipment is charged, the chargers “release” the Birds anywhere in their nest area.

How Much Do Bird Chargers Make?

Bird pays their chargers based on the number of scooters they charge. Each scooter is categorized as either green, yellow, or red, and their charging price varies by category and location. On average, you can expect to make around $5 per fully charged Bird scooter. Once you locate a machine on your app, it’ll tell you how much you’ll make for charging the scooter.

One of the top benefits of working for Bird is their same-day payouts. You’ll be paid the same day for all charged scooters that were freed back to their nest by 7 a.m. After 7 a.m., releases are paid the following business day. Such a quick turnaround only adds to the appeal of the company. Bird does limit each charger to 20 scooters per night.

Bird Charger Requirements

To become a Bird charger, the company requires you to apply. The process isn’t as complicated or thorough as rideshare or delivery companies, but you do need to meet some basic requirements. All Bird chargers must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • You need to have a vehicle
  • Live in or near an operation center
  • Charge a minimum of three Birds at a time

Since the company pays out on a daily basis, they require that each charger tackle three machines at once. This choice reduces the company’s overall costs as banks charge them for each transaction.

How to Become a Bird Charger

To apply for this Bird scooter job, you need to visit their charger sign up page. You can also access it through their app through the main menu under “Become a Charger.” Next, you’ll enter your personal and tax information along with your direct deposit information.

Become A Bird Charger

After you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive a call from the Bird team for a short interview. At this time, they’ll explain the process involved in more detail.

Upon approval, you’ll gain access to charger features in your Bird app. This step allows you to find and “capture” Birds in your area. Once you find them, you’ll scan the QR code in the same manner as you would rent them, and then you’ll load them into your vehicle and take them home for the night. The next morning, you’ll need to drop off the Bird scooters in their nest area (designated by the app) between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Bird Scooters: The Future of Bikeshare

Bikeshare options ruled 2017, and scootershare is sure to take over 2018. At the front of the electric scooter rental pack is Bird, but it’s not the only player in the game. Have you used a scooter rental service yet? If so, which one?

Becoming a delivery driver is one of the best ways to make quick cash. You set your own hours, choose the deliveries you want to take, and unlike rideshare services, you can do it all on your bike. Two of the most popular delivery services are Postmates and Caviar. While they both offer fantastic features, there are many differences between the two.

If you’re stuck choosing between becoming a Caviar driver or a working for Postmates as a courier, you’ve come to the right place! This article breaks down each service and compares the differences between them so that you can make an educated decision about which company you want to work with.

Being a Postmates Driver

While there’s been a surge in food delivery services entering the market over recent years, Postmates stands out from the crowd. The company does encourage customers to order take-out, but their delivery offerings transcend food.

Clients can order anything, from groceries to electronics, and their Postmates driver will deliver it.

Postmates courier

Offering such a variety of delivery options makes working for Postmates very appealing for drivers. Even in smaller cities where demand for couriers is lower, Postmates’ offerings make it easier for delivery drivers to find steady work because they’re not focused on one niche area of the market. Plus, you can work whenever you want, so there’s no pre-set schedules or minimum weekly hour requirement.

If this arrangement sounds perfect for you, take a closer look at the Postmates driver requirements, hiring process, and perks of the job before you apply.

Working For Postmates: Eligibility Requirements for Postmates Fleet

Before you can join the Postmates fleet, you’ll need to meet a few requirements:

  • Age: To qualify as a Postmates driver, you need to be at least 18 years old.
  • Transportation: Unlike rideshare companies, courier services offer the perk of delivery opportunities on non-four-wheeled vehicles, like bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles. You can also join the Postmates fleet with a standard car, truck, SUV, or van. In many markets, you can also deliver for Postmates on foot!
  • Auto Insurance (if you’ll be driving): All on-the-road vehicles must be insured to meet your state’s minimum legal requirements, and you’ll need to provide proof of coverage to the company.
  • Background Check: The company also requires their fleet to pass a criminal background check. This step is designed to protect their clients and the company itself.

Working For Postmates: Postmates Jobs Driver Earnings

When working for Postmates, you operate as an independent contractor, so there’s no hourly pay or yearly salary. There are also no set hours, so you get to create your own schedule, and consequently, your total earnings are dependent on your drive and the local demand.

Postmates jobs pay using a formula that covers a variety of factors. This includes:

  • Order pickup: You get paid a certain amount for simply picking up the order.
  • Time: If you arrive at the pickup spot and have to wait for the order, you’ll earn money for every minute that you wait.
  • Miles: You’re also paid for each mile you travel between pickup and dropoff.
  • Order drop off: You get paid a fee for dropping the order off.
  • Blitz bonus: When a surge in demand occurs at your location, drivers are given a bonus for working.

The specific rates you’ll earn are dependent on your location. Fortunately, Postmates is transparent in their pricing, so you can see your city’s rates directly on their site.

How Much Do Postmates Jobs Pay (Driver Earnings)?

Postmates claims that drivers can earn up to $27 per hour, and Indeed.com seems to back them up, putting the average salary at around $24/hour. But the indeed.com numbers are an average for the whole couinty, and the number of variables in place make it impossible to provide a precise estimate for each market.

However, in most medium sized markets, Postmates couriers tend to earn about $10 – $15 per hour. In certain larger Postmates markets like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, drivers can earn significantly more.

The company also sends their drivers payouts after every trip, so you’ll have access to your earnings quickly. But there is a catch—the company charges a 15-cent fee for every direct deposit, which can add up quickly if you’re working frequently.

Special Perks of Postmates Jobs

As a Postmate, you have access to their Postmates Plus Unlimited service for customers, which includes free deliveries on orders that surpass $20.

You also get to avoid service fees from many of their partners in the area. To qualify for this perk, you need to complete a minimum of 25 deliveries per month. Every month that you reach this goal, the subscription will be applied to your Postmates customer account for the following month.

Drivers who manage at least 10 deliveries per month qualify for the Postmates’ PerkSpot program. This service gives you special discounts and savings opportunities at both local and national business who partner with the company. The discount program is only activated for a week after you’ve met your monthly goal, but it offers drivers the opportunity to score some great deals.

How to Become a Postmates Driver

postmates driver sign up page

Applying to join the Postmates fleet is a quick and easy process. Simply visit the Postmates’ fleet page, and enter your email and chosen password in the box that reads, “Sign up to get started.”

You can also click the button below to start your Postmates application.

Join Postmates

After clicking “next,” the system will prompt you to enter all of the necessary information, including legal name, birth date, contact information, and address. Next, you’ll need to read and complete the Postmates fleet agreement before authorizing a background check. Finally, you’ll upload your profile photo and set up your direct deposit information while you wait for approval.

The vetting process usually takes around one to two weeks, but once you’re approved, the company will send you their new driver goodies. This package includes a delivery bag, which is incredibly helpful if you travel on two wheels, and a prepaid card that allows you to pay for the customers’ orders upon pickup. As soon as you receive this package, you can activate your card through the Postmates driver app and start accepting Postmates jobs.

Being a Caviar Driver

Caviar is another type of delivery service, but unlike Postmates, the company focuses exclusively on food, usually from higher end restaurants. Catering to such a specific market has its pros and cons. A single focus provides customers with an image that the company is specialized, which is likely to build loyalty and keep patrons coming back again. The focus on higher end restaurants can also lead to higher tips for drivers. On the other hand, it limits the market available for drivers.

Caviar Courier delivery in car

The delivery service does offer one feature that gives it the upper hand: its commercial focus. Caviar makes it extremely easy for businesses to put in group orders for their teams, allowing each person to add their own dishes. Companies can also create corporate accounts so their employees can order on a regular basis as well as request catering. Since the size of the order is factored into a courier’s payment, this feature boosts your single-delivery potential earnings as a driver.

If this job sounds like a good fit for your needs, dive into the specifics of becoming a Caviar courier, below.

Eligibility Requirements for Caviar Couriers

To deliver for Caviar, you need to meet certain requirements, including:

  • Age: Caviar couriers need to be at least 18 years old.
  • Transportation: As with Postmates, you can drive for Caviar with traditional modes of transportation, including cars, trucks, bikes, and scooters.
  • Experience: Unlike other courier services, Caviar gives priority to couriers that have at least two years of experience as a driver.
  • Interview and orientation: After you’ve applied, you’ll receive a call or email to set up your interview and orientation at the local Caviar office. Instead of meeting someone individually, as with a traditional interview, they’ll simply check all of your information and documentation to ensure that everything matches. Then, you’ll take part in a 90-minute orientation session that walks you through company processes and how everything works.
  • Background check: After you’ve made it through the onboarding process, the last step is a background check.

Earning Potential of Caviar Drivers

Instead of a set delivery amount for each location, Caviar uses its own algorithm to determine the driver’s earning for every single order. Their formula factors in mileage, expected time, and size of the delivery. Fortunately, drivers have the opportunity to view the prospective payout before accepting a delivery.

Like Postmates, Caviar also suggests that their couriers can earn up to $25 an hour. In this case, it seems to be a pretty accurate estimate, at least according to responses from some of the company’s couriers. Remember, there are many factors involved, so there’s no guarantee as to how much you’ll make if you drive for Caviar.

Special Perks of Being a Caviar Courier

One of the main perks of working for Caviar is their Cash App. This program allows Caviar couriers to process their payouts more quickly through the company’s own debit card. Instead of waiting for four to five days for your earnings to transfer, you’ll have instant access to the funds.

The Caviar hiring process is fairly simple. To apply, simply click here, create an account, and click “Apply Now.” The system will then prompt you to fill out all of the required personal information. If everything looks good, they’ll contact you to arrange an orientation at their local office. You can also click the button below to get started.

Most cities offer a variety of orientation times, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule. For the event, you’ll need to take in your ID, proof of insurance (for cars and trucks), a photo of your bike, and your bank account information to set up direct deposit.

Postmates vs. Caviar: Which One Should You Drive For?

Now that you know the basics of becoming a Caviar and Postmates driver, which one will you choose? Since you operate as an independent contractor for both companies, you could actually work for both. This situation would allow you to increase your earning potential by covering a wider customer base.

With Caviar, you’ll have a more focused delivery job, concentrating mostly on higher end restaurants.

With Postmates, you’ll be delivering from a wider variety of places. As for which one you should sign up for first, we recommend Postmates, as it tends to be busier in most markets.
