4. Then check out. Don’t forget to leave a tip for your Caviar courier.

Try Caviar Delivery - Place Order

Similar to rideshare services like Lyft and Uber, Caviar uses GPS to find the delivery driver that’s closest to the restaurant around the time your food will be ready for pick up. The driver picks up your food from the restaurant, places it in a temperature controlled bag, and delivers it to your door.

If it’s your first time ordering, you’ll need to enter payment information. You can choose to save your payment information for future orders. Since Caviar is integrated with Square, online payment is secure. An order confirmation with an itemized receipt will let you know that the process of getting your food to you has begun.

Once your driver picks up the food, you can track your order stoplight by stoplight as it makes its way to you. Your delivery might be brought by bike, scooter or car.

Caviar also has exclusive partnerships with a number of restaurants. These restaurants will only fulfill deliver orders through Caviar.

Caviar Delivery Fees And Costs

For pickup orders, there are no order minimums or fees. For delivery orders, there are always a few $0 delivery restaurants being featured. Otherwise, delivery fees are different for each restaurant and order, depending on time and distance. However, delivery ranges are much less limited with Caviar. While a local restaurant might limit delivery hours or range, Caviar delivery operates with its own fleet of couriers. The cost is very reasonable when measured by the distance the courier is traveling.

A service fee of up 18 percent is applied to your subtotal for each Caviar delivery order. This fee is for customer support, logistics, and payment processing.

And of course, you should always tip your Caviar courier.

Caviar Food Delivery Brings Home A Better Dining Experience

Finding the best food in your city at your doorstep can be a lifesaver. The convenience of a meal from the best restaurants in the US, can’t be beaten.

Caviar food ordering is simple, direct and easy to use. The Caviar app is a free download. The interface uses clear visuals to highlight the food and a secure payment interface. Local couriers bring your food directly to your door.

Caviar food delivery fees are reasonable whether you want your food delivered or prepared for takeout and the company works with local independent couriers who choose their own hours and routes. It’s distinct from other services because of its exclusive partnerships with restaurants.

Their commitment to quality includes taking their own photos of the food for their visual menu. Additionally, each one of the foods and its packaging must be tested before being allowed on the app.

Uber app best rider features

Some Features Of The Uber Rider App Explained

Though Uber started as a simple app that allowed individuals to hail a ride close to their locations, it has now expanded, offering a number of valuable features to rideshare riders. From sharing your location with others to splitting the fare with your friends, there are a variety of options that help you get more out of your Uber ride.

Top Features Of The Uber Rider App

Below, we’ve put together a quick guide to every feature in the Uber Rider app. We’ll explain what it is, why it’s valuable, and how to use it.

Uber Share Status

Share Status allows you to share your ride status with up to five friends, family members, or co-workers so they know exactly when to expect you. This gives those who are waiting peace of mind as they can follow along with your journey in real-time.

This feature also helps some riders feel safer because their friends or family know where they are. Though ridesharing is a quick and easy way to get from Point A to Point B, some riders may be apprehensive about riding along with a stranger. With Share Status, that’s no longer a worry.

How to Use Share Status

Share Status is easy to use. Here’s all you need to do to share your location with others:

  • Request a ride like you normally would. Once you’ve requested it, swipe up on your app screen and tap “Send Status.”
  • Choose up to five people from your contact list that you’d like to share your status with.
  • The people you’ve chosen will receive a text that contains a link with your trip details. When they open the link, they’ll see your driver’s name and vehicle information as well as your real-time map location.

Uber Saved Places

Do you often find yourself taking an Uber to the same location time and time again? Whether it’s your office, a friend’s house, or your favorite restaurant or bar, if you often take an Uber ride to the same location, the Saved Places feature can help you get there faster and easier.

When you save a location you frequent to the Uber app, you can call an Uber to take you to this location in just two clicks. By saving important addresses in your Uber app, you won’t need to remember the name or address of a place. You simply pull up the app and click on the destination to start getting there quickly and efficiently.

How to Use Saved Places

Here’s how you can save your favorite places to the Uber app:

  • Open the Uber app, then tap “Where to?”
  • Then, tap on the “Saved Places” option underneath the search bar.
  • Click “Add Saved Place” and enter the address of the location you frequent.
  • You can then add a name for this saved location such as “Sarah’s home” or “Work.”
  • Hit the black “Save Place” button, and the location has been saved to your Saved Places.

When you’re ready to ride, you can access these Saved Places by opening up the Uber app, tapping “Where to,” and then tapping on the “Saved Places” button. You’ll see a list of all the places you’ve saved. Simply click on the right place to call your Uber.

Split Fare

It’s not uncommon for Uber riders to share a ride with friends or family. Whether you’re going out for a night on the town or just riding to work with a co-worker, it can be challenging to calculate all the IOUs and exchange cash back and forth. Uber’s Split Fare feature makes these difficulties a thing of the past as you can easily divide the cost of the ride with your friends directly in the app, making your ride experience easy and stress-free.

Once you’ve invited other riders to split the fare, the price of the ride will be divided equally among each rider. Each rider will incur a split fare fee of 25 cents. This will show up on the receipt for each rider. If the other riders don’t accept the invitation or don’t have a valid payment method, then the person who requested the ride will be charged for the entire ride.

How to Use Split Fare In The Uber App

To use the Split Fare feature:

  • Start by requesting a ride as you normally would.
  • Once you’ve requested the ride, you can swipe up from the bottom of your app, select the payment method, and then tap on “Split Fare.”
  • Then, simply enter the names and phone number of the other riders and everyone you add will receive a notification request to accept the Split Fare invitation.

Scheduled Rides

Sometimes you know ahead of time that you’re going to need a ride. Whether it’s an important meeting or early morning flight, you can now request a pickup for these occasions ahead of time with the Scheduled Rides feature in Uber. This feature allows you to schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance for events in your calendar.

To lock in your price ahead of your trip, all you need to do is schedule at least 60 minutes before you need a ride. This allows you to know ahead of time how the ride impacts your budget. You can schedule a ride up to 30 minutes in advance to ensure an on-time pickup, or Uber will give you a $10 credit.

How to Use Scheduled Rides

Scheduling a ride is easy with this Uber feature. Follow these instructions to get your ride scheduled:

  • Open up the Uber app and tap on the car and clock icon.
  • Set the date, time, location, destination, and ride type. Then you’ll get a fare estimate.
  • Confirm the details of your scheduled ride and tap on “Schedule.”

You can edit or cancel your scheduled pick-up at any time before your ride. However, if you cancel a scheduled ride, it is subject to the same cancellation policy as on demand rides. Though this feature is available in most cities, it is not currently available to schedule a ride from the airport due to variables like flight delays and the time it takes to deboard and retrieve luggage.

Multiple Destinations

The Multiple Destinations feature allows you to add stops along the way to your destination. This is a great feature for those who want to drop off or pick up friends on their way to their destination. With Multiple Destinations, you can add up to two extra stops along your route. And you are still able to add, change, or remove a stop if plans change while you’re on your way.

Multiple Destinations is convenient as it allows for flexibility in your travel plans. Whether you need a last minute pick-up or you know ahead of time that you want to swing by and pick up a friend on your way out, this feature makes it possible. And there’s no need to tell your driver, as you can make these changes in real-time right on the app. You can even use the Split Fare tool to divide the fare with your friends.

How to Set Multiple Destinations In The Uber App

Here is how to use the Multiple Destinations Feature:

  • Open the Uber app to request a ride like you normally would.
  • Click on “Where To?” to add your destination.
  • You can then tap on the “+” button to the right of the destination box. This allows you to add stops to your route. You can add these before or during your ride.

Fare Estimate

Knowing up front how much it costs to get to your destination makes your ride experience simpler, allowing you to have greater control over your budget.

With Uber’s fare estimate, there are no surprises once you arrive at your destination. You know how much the ride will be before you request it.

Uber takes into consideration a number of different factors that impact the fare when calculating the upfront cost. The app uses past data as well as real-time information like traffic, tolls, and surges to estimate the cost before your ride begins. This cost is unlikely to change unless the rider adds extra stops, changes the destination during the trip, or there are unanticipated delays or route changes above a certain time or distance threshold.

How to Use Uber Fare Estimate

Your fare estimate will be automatically calculated when you input your destination into the Uber app. You will be able to see the fare estimate for each Uber service — UberPool, UberX, UberXL, Select, and Lux. Then you can choose the ride that best fits your needs and your budget.

Request for a Guest

Sometimes a rider may want to request an Uber for a friend or family member, either to take them back home or pick them up. With the Request for a Guest feature, friends and family don’t need to have the Uber app to get a ride. Uber users can easily request rides for other adults.

This is a great option for those who may not have the time to pick up a relative from the airport. Whether your friend or family member doesn’t have a smartphone, doesn’t use the Uber app, or you simply want to treat them to a ride somewhere, you can quickly and easily make sure that they make it to their destination safely using this feature.

How to Use Uber Request for a Guest

Using this feature is simple. Here is how:

  • When you open the Uber app, tap on “Where to?”
  • Above the address box, you’ll see a scroll-down option that allows you to choose the rider.
  • After you’ve requested the ride, the person you requested it for will receive a text message from Uber with important trip details. They’ll get information on the driver’s ETA, type of car, and contact information so that they can easily coordinate with the driver themselves.
Uber request ride for a loved one

Calendar Sync

Yet another way Uber makes it easy for riders to conveniently get from Point A to Point B is through Calendar Sync. By syncing your calendar to the Uber app, you can easily request rides when you need them to ensure you’ll make your meetings and appointments on time, every time. When you sync your calendar, your events will appear as shortcuts on the main app screen.

This feature makes it easier to get to where you need to go. Instead of scrambling to find addresses for conferences, meetings, or other events, you simply pull them up directly from your calendar in the Uber app. Riders who use this feature can rest assured their calendars will never be shared with anyone else.

How to Sync Uber With Your Calendar

Here’s how to sync your calendar in the Uber app:

  • When you open the Uber app, tap “Settings” from the drop-down menu in the upper left-hand corner. (It appears as 3 horizontal lines.)
  • Then, select “Calendar Shortcuts” and tap the slider to connect the calendar from your smartphone to the Uber app.
  • Once you’ve enabled this feature, you will see any upcoming calendar events as destination shortcuts in the Uber app.

Quick Guide To Lime And Lime Scooters

LimeBike made waves with its launch in 2017 as one of the very first bikeshare ventures in the United States. Building on the model of rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft, they offer simpler and more affordable modes of in-city transportation. While their name seems to be everywhere (the company shortened it to Lime in 2018), not many people actually know the specifics of the company or the opportunities it offers. If you fall into this category, here’s everything you need to know about Lime and their services.

What Is Lime (And LimeBikes and Lime Scooters)?

LimeBikes are simply grab-and-go style bike rentals that you use for a small fee. With a dockless system, riders can locate available bikes in their area, unlock them for their journey, and then simply leave them at their destination. This process is convenient as well as affordable. However, Lime’s bikes are being phased out in favor of scooters, which have become far more popular.

For now, there are two styles of LimeBikes available: Smart Bikes and E-Assist.

Smart Bikes are traditional, pedal-powered bikes that are integrated into the company’s smart app system. Lime offers three variations of Smart Bikes: one-speed, three-speed (shown below), and eight-speed.

Limebike rental 3 speed

Electric Assist (or Lime-E) bikes, on the other hand, offer a boost of electric power. While you’ll still pedal, the battery increases your power and makes it easier to bike around the city. In fact, the Lime-E bikes can reach speeds of up to 14.8 mph.

If you want to try an actual Limebike, you should do it soon, as the company is phasing out bikes, in favor of scooters.

What Are Lime Scooters?

Known as the Lime-S (shown below), Lime Bike scooters are designed to make it even easier to get around a city with fast travel speeds and affordable costs. Riders can rent the scooters in the same manner as LimeBikes, but since they’re electric, there’s no manual labor involved.

Lime Bike Lime-S Scooter

Where Is Lime Available?

Lime is rapidly increasing their service areas. Currently, their main focus is on cities and college campuses. The states they’re operating in include:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Missouri
  • New York
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Texas
  • Washington
  • Washington D.C.

Their biggest operating area is California, and some states only offer the service in one or two major cities. Also, Lime-S isn’t available in all of the cities that currently offer LimeBike. However, the company is working to expand their service area quickly.

How Much Do LimeBike Rentals Cost?

LimeBike rentals are incredibly affordable. There’s a standard rate for each bike and scooter rental, but exact costs for each electric model vary by city. Here’s a breakdown of their pricing model:

  • Smart Bikes: Manual LimeBikes cost $1 for every 30 minutes of use. If you’re a student, professor, or staff member of a college or university, you only have to pay 50 cents for each half hour. To qualify for this discount, you need to set up your Lime rider account with a valid .edu email address.
  • Electric Assist Bikes: Lime’s electric assist bikes charge a $1 base cost with an additional fee for each minute of usage. The per-minute charge varies by location, but on average, it ends up at around 15 cents.
  • Lime-S: For Lime’s electric scooters, you’ll experience a pricing formula similar to the electric LimeBikes. There’s an initial fee of $1 to unlock the scooter, and then you’ll be charged a location-specific rate for every minute of use.

The company offers a special pricing program for frequent riders. LimePrme is a monthly pay tier that allows you to pay $29.95 for around $100 of LimeBike credits. College and university faculty can purchase a LimePrime membership for $14.95. However, this service is only available for traditional, pedal LimeBikes and not their electric counterparts or scooters.

You can use our LimeBike promo code – R2WAI74 – to get $3 in ride credits when you sign up. Click the button below to download the Limebike app and get started with your free Limebike rides.

How to Rent a LimeBike

Limebike escooter rental start screen

Renting a LimeBike or Lime-S scooter is even easier than requesting an Uber or Lyft. You’ll need to first download the Lime app from the iTunes store or Google Play.  After you open the app, it’ll request that you sign up for the service, and then you’ll be able to enter your payment information.

Limebike Smart Bike Rental - Payment Entry

To rent a LimeBike or scooter, you’ll need to find a bike on the map. Your current position is designated with a little blue dot while rentals in the area are identifiable by the green Lime logo.

Limebike E-Assist Map

Choose a nearby option and walk to it. Once you’ve arrived, you will scan the QR code on the back of the LimeBike seat or on the scooter’s handlebar. This step unlocks the vehicle and you can begin your journey. Here’s a short video that shows how to rent a LimeBike scooter.

The app will track your time, distance, location, and cost in real-time, so you’ll always know what your total expense is. When you’ve reached your destination, you simply park the bike or scooter in a safe location. For bikes, you’ll move the lock lever on the back tire to reset it. For scooters, you’ll click “Lock” on the app screen. You’ll see your total charges and trip summary on the app’s screen, so be sure to double-check that the cost is correct.

Everything You Need to Know About LimeBike Juicers

After launching their electric scooter service, the company needed assistance with recharging their equipment for the next day. This has created a new type of LimeBike job position, known as a “juicer.” Learn more about this side hustle and how you can benefit from it, below.

What Is a LimeBike Juicer?

LimeBike juicers drive around their service area to collect scooters for charging. They then take the scooters home and charge them overnight for a fee. For this particular LimeBike job, you’ll operate as an independent contractor, which means you have more freedom than a conventional position.

How To Be A Limebike Juicer

How Much Do Lime Bike Juicers Make?

Lime pays their juicers for each scooter they charge. This fee varies by area, but you’ll know the total payment available when you click the scooter on your in-app map. On average, you can expect to earn around $5 per charge. Initially, the company will provide you with three chargers, but you can feasibly charge more than three machines per night. They only require the scooters to reach a 95 percent charge before considering the job completed.

The more well-charged machines will take one to two hours to charge, while those with less juice need around five to seven hours. If you pick up six Lime Bike scooters — three that are mostly charged and three with a nearly depleted charge, you could potentially earn $30 or more per night.

How to Become a LimeBike Juicer

To join the LimeBike juicer community, you simply need to sign up on their website. For this process, you’ll provide personal information, contact information, and your vehicle type. The company requires each juicer to have a vehicle available to them to transport the scooters, such as a car, SUV, truck, or minivan. After reviewing your application, a member of the Lime team will contact you over the phone or through email. This conversation provides all of the information you need to know about the charging process and what the company expects from you as a juicer.

Once approved, you’ll be able to turn on “Juicer” mode in your LimeBike app. After 8 p.m., you can begin collecting scooters in your area and start charging them. The app will provide you a general area to drop off each scooter in the morning. All Lime-S equipment must be charged and placed back into the community by 7 a.m. After you’ve dropped off the scooter, you’ll click “Served” on the app and instantly see how much you’ve made.

The Future of LimeBikes and Lime-S Electric Scooters

LimeBikes and scooters make in-city travel convenient and affordable, but they also offer a money-making opportunity for locals. As the company expands, they’ll need more and more LimeBike juicers to keep up with demand. If you’re looking for a quick way to complement your income, scooter rental services, like Lime and Bird, provide a fantastic opportunity to earn money with minimal effort. Have you used LimeBike or Lime-S yet? We want to know how it went!

Lyft & Uber Passenger Holiday Tips

Lyft & Uber Holiday Rider Tips

Winter is a hectic time to be on the road. Dangerous weather and increased holiday traffic can make an ordinary commute seem like the seventh level of hell at times.

It’s no wonder so many people choose to take a Lyft or Uber during this time of year.

Unfortunately, the increased rider demand around the holidays often leads to more frequent and costly surge pricing.

Don’t worry though — we’ve got the inside scoop on how to ride like a pro and keep a little dough in your pocket for those holiday gifts.

Lyft passenger traveling home for the holidays.

Avoiding Surge Pricing on Uber and Lyft

Mention surge pricing in conversations among rideshare passengers and you’ll likely be met with a stream of expletives, or at least a roll of the eyes. Unfortunately, the concept isn’t going away and may show up at your favorite restaurant next year.

Lyft and Uber don’t necessarily impose surge pricing to be evil – they’re just responding to the reality that ride requests often outnumber the number of drivers available and must offer some incentives to keep drivers driving.

That said, we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves for avoiding surge pricing with Uber and Lyft during the holidays.

1.  Sign up for both Lyft and Uber

In many cases, one platform may have surge pricing, while the other is charging the standard fare for rides. Comparing fares can help you avoid paying a premium for your rides.

Walk a couple blocks — It’s hard to know when or where surge pricing might begin, but if you’re in a particularly congested shopping area, consider walking a couple of blocks to a less busy place to avoid surge pricing.

2. Wait About Ten Minutes

Sometimes, avoiding surge pricing is just a matter of being patient. If you can wait 15-30 minutes, you may find that rates return to normal for your next ride. Go have a drink or a meal and see how things play out.

3. Know The Regular Surge Pricing Times

Again this isn’t always foolproof, but if you can plan your rides outside of normal commute times, you can save time, headaches, and money. Additionally, if you keep up to date on special events like concerts or sporting events, you can avoid those times likely to be subject to surge pricing.

4. Give UberPool Or Lyft Line A Try

If you’re down to meet new people, consider sharing your ride with others. You never know — you could meet the next Mr. or Mrs. Right!

Avoiding surge pricing is just one way to make your holiday rideshare experience a 5-star affair. Keep reading for additional tips.

Consider A Lyft Or Uber Subscription Plan

Both Uber and Lyft offer subscription plans in certain cities, designed to reduce rates and encourage rider loyalty.

If you think you may be taking a few more Lyft or Uber rides this December, this might be a good option.

Lyft Subscription Plans

There are currently two Lyft All-Access Plans. The first one costs $169 per month for 30 rides (up to $8 per ride). The more expensive Lyft plan costs $299 per month for 30 rides (up to $15 per ride).

Overall, Lyft’s subscription plan works out to around a 30% discount on rides, if you take 30 rides in a month, and they’re under the $8 or $15 limit.

For rides over $8 or $15, the rider pays the additional amount.

Uber Cash & Ride Pass

If $299 or $169 are a bit steep, the Uber Ride Pass might be a better option.

Purchasing a pass ($14.99 – $24.99 per month) locks in reduced Uber rates for one month. It’s only available in certain cities, and even in those cities, in limited quantities.

You can sign up through the app. The option will appear in your Uber rider app when passes are available. When the passes for that month are sold out, the option disappears.

Uber Ride Pass
  • Monthly fee to lock in reduced rates in the service area
  • $14.99 to $24.99 (varies by city), plus the flat rate of each trip
  • Automatically renews

Uber Cash allows you to purchase Uber ride credits at a discount. You can add Uber Cash to your account from the Uber rider app.

  • 5% discount when you add $100
  • 3% discount when you add $50
  • 2% discount when you add $25

Also, be sure to check out Uber’s Holiday Tips that outline various app features that may come in handy this holiday season.

Be Realistic About Your Car Size Requirements

Everyone wants to save money during the holidays, so it may seem like a good idea to order the smallest, least expensive Uber or Lyft vehicle you can.

However, if you’ve got a Santa-worthy stash of gifts or six roller-bags for your family of four, don’t expect your driver to fit everything in their Prius. Instead, opt for the XL, Plus, or Lux options and enjoy some space.

Communicate With Your Driver

Your Uber or Lyft driver will have enough to contend with during the holidays, so do everyone a favor by:

  • Communicating your location to your driver in advance — try to use recognizable landmarks that a driver is likely to see from the road.
  • Let your driver know what you’re wearing so they can easily identify you.
  • Avoid the most crowded pick-up/drop-off areas for faster, easier access.

Not only will this keep everyone in a better mood, but it can also save you money by avoiding extra fees and cancellations if your driver can’t find you.

Schedule Your Ride in Advance

Both Uber and Lyft offer ride scheduling, so if you know when you’ll need to be picked up, like 20 minutes after your plane lands, schedule that ride in advance. This will ensure a driver is available for you and help you avoid the long holiday rideshare lines at the airport.

One caveat — if you do schedule a ride in advance, be sure to be at your agreed pick-up location at the agreed time. If something changes, communicate with your driver.

Be Kind, Ride Safe & Tip

Remember, drivers can rate their passengers, so try to be on your best behavior during the holiday rush. Drivers are people too, and can make mistakes just like the rest of us.

Plus, holidays are more prone to drunk driving incidents (though hopefully not on the part of your driver), so be sure to wear your seatbelt.

Also, be sure to tip your driver. Tips on Uber or Lyft are not included, but always appreciated.

If your driver made you feel particularly safe and welcome, don’t be afraid to spread the holiday cheer and give them a 15 to 20 percent tip and 5-star review at the end of your ride.

If you haven’t sign up with either Lyft or Uber, and want to receive ride credits up to $20 (in most cities, you get $5), click one of the buttons below.

Lyft Rider Questions

Answers To Some Common Lyft Rider Questions

Lyft Tipping Etiquette – Do You Tip Your Lyft Driver?

If you haven’t taken a Lyft, you’ve probably got a few questions about how it works. Below we answer some of the most common Lyft rider questions that new passengers have.

Oh, and if you’re looking for a Lyft code good for free ride credits, simply click the button below for between $5 and $20 in free Lyft credits (amount determined by your city).

Free Lyft Credits

What’s the tipping etiquette for Lyft?

We’ll open with the million dollar question. Should you tip your Lyft driver? And when you do tip, how much money should you give them?

Lyft offers in-app tipping options, although it can be very easy to forget about your tip, as payments are generally handled automatically. It’s an unfortunate quirk and one that many drivers are less than thrilled about. Factor in that Lyft does not reimburse drivers for maintenance, gas, and other expenses incurred while driving, and it’s easy to see why. Fortunately, Lyft is rolling out a few features to make tipping easier for passengers.

As with servers and bartenders, many Lyft drivers rely on tips for a large portion of their income.

With that in mind, a good rule of thumb for tipping your Lyft driver is to offer them the same amount you would a taxi service. Generally, that will be around fifteen to twenty percent of your total fare.

If your driver provided exceptional service – good conversation, music, amenities, etc. – you might even consider tipping more.

Lyft Rider Questions - Tipping

Can my Lyft driver see how much I tip?

Yes. Lyft drivers receive a weekly earnings report every Tuesday summarizing the trips, fees, and tips they made the previous week.

They can also examine  their ride history in the driver app, which shows details such as pickup point, destination, trip time, and tip total for each job. This is one of the reasons tipping is a great way to be a five star passenger.

Should I sit in the front seat or backseat as a Lyft passenger?

You can sit where you feel like sitting. However, if you are by yourself, most Lyft (and Uber) drivers would prefer that you sit in the back, behind the passenger seat.

Does Lyft charge per person?

It does not.

The number of riders on a particular trip generally has no bearing on how much you pay for a trip – provided you aren’t requesting a ride for more than three or four people. For larger groups, you’ll need to order a Lyft XL.

This will connect you to a driver with a larger vehicle capable of fitting up to six people.

Lyft XL rates are slightly higher than the rates for a standard Lyft, owing to the fact that larger vehicles tend to have poorer gas mileage than small or mid-sized ones.

How much does Lyft cost?

The short answer is ‘it depends.’ As with Uber, Lyft prices are different from city to city.

There is also a large variance between the different types of Lyft you can select. We have already mentioned Lyft Plus, which offers larger vehicles – Lyft also features a number of other options that you can select:

Lyft Line costs less than a standard Lyft and works by connecting you with other passengers along the route to your destination. Essentially, it’s an option to carpool and save money doing so.

Lyft Lux provides you with a late model luxury sedan that seats up to four passengers.

Lyft Lux Black is one step down from ordering full limo service – Lyft describes it on its website as being “limited to only the most luxurious makes and models.” It’s also important to note that Lyft Lux Black exclusively features drivers with a high rating.

Lyft Lux Black XL features premium SUVs with space for up to six people. Aside from this, it’s the same as Lyft Lux Black.

Your ride type aside, there are a few things that go into your pricing when you call for a Lyft.

The distance between your pickup point and destination. The per-mile rate varies by city, but it’s usually somewhere around $1 for Lyft, and as much as $5 for Lyft Lux Black.

The amount of time it will take to reach your destination, calculated as a per-minute cost. Again, this varies wildly by city and time and may range from $0.10 per minute to $0.50 per minute.

All rides booked through Lyft also have a service fee attached to them. The fee varies by city.

The minimum fare. Generally speaking, this is around $3 for a standard Lyft. Depending on which service you use, it can be as high as $25 or $30.
There is an additional fee if you get picked up at an airport.

To receive a fare estimate for your city based on your pickup location and destination, simply visit Lyft’s Fare Estimator.

Does Lyft have surge pricing like Uber?

Yes. This is known as Lyft Prime Time. During periods of especially high demand, your ride price will be higher. Prime Time price increases are usually done in 25% increments.

As this can get very expensive very quickly, it may be better to wait a few minutes and see if demand goes down before ordering.

Is it possible to use Lyft without a credit card?

Yes. In addition to accepting all major credit cards, Lyft also accepts any debit card tied to a checking account, as well as most prepaid cards.

Passengers can also pay through PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Per Lyft’s website, all payments made through the platform are processed through third-party payment service Stripe.

Note that you can also add multiple payment methods to your account, and you can create a business and personal profile. Should you do so, you’ll be able to choose which one to use on a per-ride basis.

Unfortunately, there is no cash payment option for Lyft at this point in time, though some passengers do choose to tip their drivers with cash rather than through the app.

How do I add my debit card to Lyft?

Adding a debit card to your Lyft account follows the same process as adding a credit card. Simply open the Lyft app, tap on your photo, and tap “Payment.”

Enter your debit card number and all other relevant information, and save it. and you’re good to go!

How do I add Google Pay to Lyft?

To add Google Pay to Lyft, you’ll first want to ensure you’ve configured Google Pay on your device. Luckily, this is pretty simple to do. Just launch the Google Pay app, verify the cards associated with your account, and you’re good to go.

From there navigate to the Payment section of your Lyft app and tap to add Google Pay. That’s it.

How do I add Apple Pay to Lyft?

If you have an iPhone or iPhone Plus that’s model 6 or newer, you can configure Lyft to use the new Apple Pay service. This one-touch mobile payment option works similarly to Google Pay, combining your credit cards, debit cards, tickets, reward cards, and other payment options in a single place.

Once you’ve configured it by adding your payment cards, you can then easily add it to your Lyft account through the Payment tab in the Lyft app.

How do I delete my payment info on Lyft?

To delete your payment info from the Lyft app, you basically just need to follow the same process you would to add new payment methods.

First, navigate to the Payment section of the Lyft app. Tap on the payment method you wish to remove, and tap “Delete Card.”

Note that if a payment method is the only one on your account, you cannot delete it.

How do I delete my Lyft account?

Unfortunately, deactivating your Lyft account is a bit of a process. You’ll need to contact customer support, either through the Lyft support page or by emailing support@lyft.com.

Should you choose the former, select “Delete Account or Unsubscribe” in the support page’s drop-down menu.

You are required to explain why you wish to delete your account, though what details you provide in this explanation are up to you.

Once you’ve submitted a support ticket, you may need to wait a few hours to receive a response from Lyft Customer Support.

If they take too long to get back to you, you can send additional emails to support@lyft.com. Once the process is completed, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, even if your account is deleted, Lyft retains certain information about you as a passenger. This includes your name, email, and phone number; any photos you added to the app, your payment information, reviews and ratings you’ve submitted about Lyft drivers, location information gathered by the app, and records of your communication with customer service.

The idea is that by retaining all this data, they make it easier to return to the service if you wish to reactivate your account in the future.

The second is that you will not automatically be unsubscribed from Lyft’s promotional emails – they may occasionally try to reach out to you with special offers and deals in an effort to convince you to return.

To unsubscribe from these emails, you’ll need to submit another support request. Alternatively, you can simply use the Unsubscribe feature in your email client.

How do I contact Lyft?

You can contact Lyft through the help section of their website. This allows you to report an accident or incident, report an issue with a driver, or report a lost item. You can also contact Lyft support directly through the rider app.

Can you use Lyft without a smartphone?

You can – but you’ll still need at least a cell phone. Visit ride.lyft.com and enter your phone number to authorize a new ride request. You’ll receive a text message containing an authorization code.

Enter that into your browser, and you’ll be able to configure your pickup point and destination. You’ll also want to make sure your payment information on the site is up to date.

How do I check my account for promotions or credit?

To check for any promotions on your account, simply open the app, tap on your profile picture, and then tap ‘Promos.’ Any active promotions will be visible on this page.

Can I pay for someone else’s Lyft?

Unless you add your payment information to their account, no. However, what you can do is request a ride for a friend through your own Lyft account. Should you choose to do this, Lyft recommends that you text the driver to let them know they’re picking up a friend instead of you.

You should ensure you enter in both the pickup point and destination for your friend before you request one.

Alternatively, if you and your friend both have Lyft, you can split the payment for your ride while en-route.

Where is Lyft available?

Lyft is currently available in over 300 cities in the U.S., as well as Toronto and Ottawa. Vancouver, Montreal, and other cities in Canada will be added in 2019.

Lyft passenger questions

To see if Lyft is available where you live, you can check the directory on Lyft’s website. Note that at the time of writing, Lyft is not yet available outside North America.

What is Lyft Line, and how do I use it?

Lyft Line effectively offers you the option to carpool with other Lyft passengers along the route to your destination. It’s available a discounted rate compared to other Lyft services – anywhere from ten percent to sixty percent. To use Lyft Line, simply tap “Line” when you’re requesting a ride.

From there, simply enter your destination as-normal and you’re good to go. Note that you may find yourself in a Lyft with other passengers at the moment of pick-up, or your Lyft may stop en-route to your destination to pick up additional passengers.

It’s generally a good idea to budget extra time for your Lyft Line, just in case more passengers join the trip.

That said, if there are no other passengers along your chosen route, you’ll still be able to use Lyft Line – you’ll just instantly get from point A to point B.

Lyft Line is only available for trips which include only a single stop.

If you’re using Lyft to run errands or making multiple stops along your route, you’ll have to settle for a standard ride. The same goes if you need to bring luggage or a heavy load with you on the trip.

What’s the cheapest time of day to get a Lyft?

Generally speaking, there are a few times throughout the day where Lyft requests surge into the stratosphere. Although it does tend to vary slightly by city, the busiest times of day for Lyft are usually as follows:

  • Morning rush hour (7 to 9 AM)
  • Evening rush hour (4 to 7 PM)
  • Friday and Saturday evening
  • Holidays

It’s also important to remember that Prime Time surges can happen at any time of day. Weather conditions such as heavy snow or rainfall also tend to both increase fare and increase demand for Lyft drivers.

Does Lyft allow pets such as dogs?

Yes and no.  Both Uber & Lyft drivers are obligated to allow service animals into their vehicles, but otherwise, the decision on whether or not you can travel with your pet depends on the driver.

Some drivers are happy to allow cats and dogs into their vehicle, while others may request that you find another ride.

Generally speaking, if you want to travel with a pet, call ahead – make it clear to your driver that you’re bringing an animal on-board. If possible, keep them in a carrier. If they’re too large for that, bring a towel or blanket to put over the seat, and make sure the animal is clean before getting into the vehicle with it.

Uber Cash - How To Use

Uber Riders – Should You Be Using Uber Cash?

In September 2018, Uber announced the rollout of a new payment option – Uber Cash.

Uber Cash was designed to transform the way Uber customers pay for services across the Uber ecosystem – from bike sharing to food delivery and rideshare. But what is Uber Cash and how does it work? And more importantly – should you be using it?

Below, we’ll dive into how Uber Cash works and what benefits it can provide Uber users to help you better understand whether it’s right for you.

What Is Uber Cash?

Uber Cash is a new payment option Uber rolled out earlier this year. Marketed as “the smart way to pay for Uber,” this payment option allows users to add funds to their Uber account upfront to pay for Uber rides and Uber Eats deliveries.

The purchased funds don’t expire, and Uber offers discounts based on how much money users add to their balance. (But more on that later.)

Users can add funds to their account using a variety of payment methods, including debit card, credit card, PayPal, and Venmo.

Any Uber credits that a user receives, including Uber gift cards, Visa Local Offers credits, and customer support funds will also be added to the user’s Uber Cash balance to be used on future Uber purchases.

Overall, Uber Cash gives its users a seamless way to pay for Uber services. As Uber begins to expand its services in the coming years, this payment option will offer a single payment method that’s easy for users to load and use.

How To Add Uber Cash To Your Uber Account

To load up your Uber Cash balance, follow these steps:

  1. Open the app menu and tap on Payment
  2. Tap “Add funds”
  3. Choose the amount you want to load

How To Use Uber Cash

To use Uber Cash when requesting a ride:

  1. Open the Uber app and choose a destination
  2. Before requesting your ride, change your payment method to Uber Cash
  3. Complete your ride request

Should You Use Uber Cash?

Using Uber Cash as a payment option will really depend on your own unique preferences and circumstances. To help you make a smarter decision, we’ve put together a list of questions that will help you better understand if Uber Cash is right for you:

How Often Do You Use Uber?

If you only use Uber once or twice a month, then Uber Cash may not be the best fit for you. However, for those that often use this ridesharing service or order from Uber Eats on a regular basis, Uber Cash can provide attractive benefits. Uber offers a discount based on how much you add to your balance:

  • 5% discount when you add $100
  • 3% discount when you add $50
  • 2% discount when you add $25

If you find yourself using Uber services often, then utilizing Uber Cash payments gives you the opportunity to take advantage of some serious savings. Not to mention, you can plan ahead by allocating funds to your Uber budget, ensuring the money is there when you need it.

Do You Use Other Uber Services?

Another benefit of Uber Cash is that it allows you to pay for all of your Uber services from one convenient account.

That means that if you are using more than one Uber service, you don’t have to load multiple credit cards or deal with paying from multiple sources. This feature makes Uber Cash a great option for individuals who use more than one Uber service.

Is Convenience Important to You?

When it comes down to which payment option you should use for your Uber services, consider which is most useful for you.

Uber Cash was developed to be a convenient option for customers who often use rideshare and other Uber services. If convenience is important to you, then the ability to pre-load funds and pay for all of your Uber services, including tipping drivers, from one account may be appealing.

Uber Cash also offers the ability to auto-refill your account when the balance drops below $10 so that you never have to worry about whether or not you have the funds in your account to pay for Uber services.

Now that you know what Uber Cash is and who should use it, it’s time to make the choice for yourself. You can reap the benefits of using one convenient account to pay for all your Uber services or continue to pay for individual trips and deliveries with your credit card. The choice is yours!

Uber ride pass vs. Lyft all access plan

Lyft vs. Uber: Which Subscription Plan Is Right for You?

As Lyft and Uber race to their expected IPOs in 2019, they’re continuously launching new programs and services. Most recently, the two companies have turned their attention to subscription services. While each rideshare powerhouse is going about the process differently, they both have the same goal — reducing customer trip costs. Before deciding on your own subscription, you need to have all the facts. Here’s everything you need to about Lyft and Uber’s subscription services.

Lyft vs. Uber: The Road to Subscription Offerings

Uber was the first rideshare company to begin the move to subscription offerings. Back in 2016, reports began surfacing of their Uber Plus service. This service eventually appeared as Flat Fare Ride packages in 2017, and later evolved into the invite-only Uber Ride Pass in multiple variations. The most recent Ride Pass announcement came in October 2018, when the program launched to the public with a finalized arrangement.

While Uber led the drive toward subscription services, Lyft’s subscription evolution occurred much more quickly. The company began testing their All-Access Plan options back in late 2017, and finally launched the service to the public in October 2018. During the testing phase of this newest plan, they also launched a Personal Plan offering in July 2018 and an invite-only Commute Plan early in the year. Even though they weren’t the first in the game, they’ve quickly caught up and exceeded Uber’s subscription options.

What You Need to Know About Lyft’s Subscription Plans

Over the past year, Lyft has tried out various subscription options through trial programs. Currently, they offer three styles of subscription plans:

  • All-Access
  • Personal
  • Commute

All three offerings are lumped under the Lyft Pass umbrella, but only two are currently available to the public. However, the recent launch of All-Access brings the future of the other two programs into question.

Lyft All-Access Plan

  • 30 trips in a 30 day period
  • $299 plus any trip costs over $15 and tips, or $169 plus any trip costs over $8 and tips
  • Rolling subscription automatically renews

After months of testing and changes, Lyft’s All-Access Plan is now accessible to riders across the U.S. There are currently two Lyft all access subscription plans.

The first Lyft subscription plan provides 30 rides of up to $15 each for $299 per month. The other Lyft subscription plan provides 30 rides of up to $8 each for $169 per month.

As an ongoing program, users are automatically charged the subscription rate every month until they choose to cancel. However, tips aren’t included in the subscription cost.

Lyft all access plan

This is a fantastic option for regular Lyft users. Unlike the company’s other subscription plans, riders aren’t required to stick to set routes. As a result, you achieve both savings and flexibility. If any trip exceeds the $15 restriction, you simply pay the overage amount. After hitting the 30-ride limit, subscribers still receive a 5% reduction on all additional trips.

If you’re already a Lyft rider, to sign up for Lyft’s all access plan, click on notifications in the Lyft app, and then select the All-Access Plans item. To sign up for Lyft, click the

Join Lyft All Access

Lyft Personal Plan

  • Users pay a monthly fee for reduced ride rates on selected routes
  • $1.99 to $9.99, plus a locked-in rate for each trip up to $25
  • Ability to cancel and reactivate any time

The Lyft Personal Plan offers a slightly different arrangement from the All-Access offering. With this plan, users pay a set monthly fee to lock in a specific route rate chosen by the rider. The only restriction is that the trip can’t exceed $25. This arrangement allows you to avoid surge pricing and keep your overall costs low.

The Personal Plan is an excellent choice for anyone who only takes a few trips per week. However, if you use Lyft more than 30 times per month or don’t utilize the same route regularly, then the All-Access plan may be a better choice. To figure out which one will save you the most monthly, consider your rideshare route habits and frequency.

Lyft Commute Plans

The Lyft Commute Plan is only available by invitation, which is sent directly in the app. It’s designed to offer a locked-in reduced rate on a rider’s most-used route, typically from their home to work and vice versa. It’s also accompanied by a monthly access fee. However, Lyft users aren’t allowed to choose the route themselves. Instead, the app makes the selection based on the rider’s settings.

The Commute Plan is very similar to the Personal Plan, essentially serving as the latter program’s inspiration. It is currently unknown whether this product will fully launch to the public as a standalone option, or if current users will be forced to switch plans. The exclusivity of the plan also means there’s very little known about the pricing specifics.

What You Need to Know About Uber’s Subscription Plan

Uber has fewer subscription options, all of which exist as options within Uber Ride Pass. Originally, the Uber Plus service was tested and launched with a limited number of subscription offerings under the name “Uber Ride Pass.” However, the service was invite-only through every previous pilot version. There were also a limited number of passes available.

Now, the company has nailed down the details for their public launch. Instead of limiting the service through 28-day pass purchases, customers pay a rolling monthly subscription fee. Here’s a closer look at the most recent version of Ride Pass:

Uber Ride Pass

  • Monthly fee to lock in reduced rates in the service area
  • $14.99 to $24.99, plus the flat rate of each trip
  • Automatically renews without limited offerings

Uber Ride Pass is designed to help reduce travel costs for regular riders. A monthly subscription fee provides unlimited, around-the-clock access to locked-in rates throughout a designated service area. All of the rates are figured by the company ahead of time, so you don’t have to deal with jumps in prices as a result of demand or timing.

Currently, the service is only available in five cities — Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando. Residents in Los Angeles face a higher monthly charge at $24.99, but they’ll also be the first to gain access to special perks for e-bikes and scooters. Additionally, all riders receive a 15% rate reduction on routes not included in their flat-rate service area.

If you don’t see an Uber ride pass option in your app menu, then they are not available in your area, or all the Uber ride passes for your market have sold out for the time being.

The Power of Lyft and Uber Subscription Plans

The move toward subscription services in the rideshare industry is a natural one. Spearheaded by Netflix in the late ’90s, the concept has entered just about every industry within the last decade.

From entertainment and beauty supplies, to groceries and household necessities, today’s consumers love subscription services. Companies love them because they’re a reliable and predictable revenue stream. As such, it was only a matter of time before the service model made its way into the rideshare and delivery arena.

Since so many individuals utilize both Lyft and Uber, the subscription services also serve as a way to score customer loyalty. By locking customers into one plan on one rideshare platform, they are given an incentive to stick with it and get their money’s worth. Naturally, both companies’ plan offerings will continue to evolve in the next few years in an effort to out-do one another.

You can get your Lyft All Access Plan or Uber Ride Pass by signing up below. You’ll also get a free or discounted Lyft or Uber ride when you sign up!

Man taking Lyft Concierge or Uber Health

Uber Health & Lyft Concierge: Rideshare Medical Transport

Lyft Concierge & Uber Health: What You Need to Know About Rideshare Medical Transit

For many individuals, finding a ride to the doctor’s office or the hospital can be a challenge. Public transportation can get expensive and be inconvenient, and many specialized services are in short supply. Recently, rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft have moved into the non-emergency medical transport arena with Uber Health and Lyft Concierge.

What Is Rideshare Healthcare Transportation?

Non-emergency medical transportation is not new. It’s a type of service for patients to visit their healthcare providers, even if they don’t have access to a vehicle or traditional public transportation. However, most providers (typically municipal providers) are based locally with limited offerings.

The burden of payment typically also falls onto the patient and not the medical organization. As a result, millions of patients still miss doctors appointments regularly because they don’t have a suitable option.

Both Lyft and Uber are hoping to become big players in the industry by making non-emergency medical transit more affordable, reliable, and convenient. These three qualities are already the basis of their rideshare models, so it makes sense that they’d expand their service range. These are also the three qualities that the current medical transportation industry is lacking.

Both companies began medical transport pilot programs in 2017, and have since expanded their offerings. Lyft has recently partnered with companies like Formativ Health, Hitch Health, and Allscripts.

Everything You Need to Know About Lyft Concierge

Lyft Concierge is one of the rideshare company’s business services. Initially, the service was designed with general business needs in mind. Companies like Ascension and JetBlue have been using Lyft Concierge to provide rides for employees and customers for some time.

Lyft Concierge Dashboard Schedule

In 2017, Lyft began a partnership with Denver Health to provide rides to its patients. According to a case study on the program, it has significantly lowered complaints about transportation, while giving Denver Health important geographical data about where their services are needed.

Denver Health uses the patient advocate office to track the number of complaints about lack of adequate transportation. Prior to the Lyft partnership, patient advocates received complaints daily. Since the partnership was launched, there have been zero complaints recorded about lack of transportation. The hospital also tracks the number of rides per location, to determine where the greatest community needs are located. Denver Health has found that the Lyft program is a great benefit to patients for whom English is a second language.

Medical providers can sign up with the Lyft Business platform to arrange rides for patients using Lyft Concierge. However, it’s not designed solely for the rules and regulations of the healthcare industry.

For heightened security and to meet HIPAA requirements, hospitals, clinics, and other patient organizations can utilize the Concierge API to implement the service within their own system-wide software or applications.

How It Works

Any healthcare organization can utilize Lyft Concierge service as long as they sign up for a Lyft Business account. Appointments are made by the healthcare provider — not the patient. Rides can be requested up to one week in advance, but the service isn’t yet available for longer timeframes.

One of the biggest perks of Lyft Concierge is that patients don’t need access to the platform. Even as riders, they aren’t required to use the Lyft app. The system also allows healthcare providers to create special ride pick-up and drop-off locations at their facility. Such a feature provides patients with the highest level of convenience.

Lyft Concierge App Ride Request

Where Is It Available?

Until recently, businesses had to be invited to join the network. Now, Lyft Concierge is available in all of Lyft’s U.S. markets. When making a booking, clients are able to request special styles of vehicles when they’re available.

Everything You Need to Know About Uber Health

Unlike Concierge, Uber Health is designed solely around the needs of the healthcare industry. It also exists on a separate platform from other business options. This design choice gives it a slight edge over Lyft Concierge.

The separation has made it easy to create a HIPAA-compliant dashboard. Following HIPAA regulations is one of the biggest challenges for the medical industry, and Uber Health makes it easy for them to stay compliant. Plus, clients also have the option to integrate the Uber Health API into their own network for easy and secure access.

The service is available 24-hours per day, which is incredibly convenient in the world of medicine. Many patients need to arrive early for outpatient procedures and tests. Uber Health ensures they arrive on time without any hiccups.

How It Works

To access the service, healthcare organizations simply need to create an Uber Health account. There is a wait time of around five days to get the account ready. Once it is, the Uber customer support team will reach out and provide assistance.

Through the dashboard, clients can book rides for their patients up to 30 days in advance. They can also request rides for immediate service. Passengers are notified of the booking via text message, and then they’re contacted again once the driver is on their way. However, patients don’t need access to the Uber app at all.

Uber Health Dashboard

During the ride, healthcare clients can monitor the trip in real time. They’re also able to see an accurate ETA for the journey. Uber Health clients are billed monthly instead of instantly. This process allows healthcare organizations to have the opportunity to review all of the charges ahead of payment.

UberHealth Ride History

Where Is It Available?

Uber Health is available in all of its rideshare markets in the U.S. Healthcare providers have the option to arrange rides for any style of Uber obtainable in the platform. The only real issue that may arise is accessibility for mobility-restricted passengers.

UberWAV is designed to support the needs of motorized wheelchair and scooters users, but the on-demand transportation option is only currently available in four cities: Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. Such a limited market could cause a problem for customers in the rest of the country.

How Do Lyft Concierge & Uber Health Affect Drivers?

Lyft and Uber drivers shouldn’t expect much of a change in their day-to-day activities. In fact, if you’ve been driving in the last year, you’ve probably already given some Lyft or Uber medical transport rides.

The two biggest issues for drivers are ratings and tipping. Riders aren’t in charge of the ride specifics — all of the booking and payments go through the each services’ dashboard. This means that passengers aren’t able to rate drivers. It’s also likely that drivers won’t receive tips. Unfortunately, neither Lyft nor Uber has announced any plans to help combat the tipping problem as of yet.
