Lyft Promo Code – 2019
The amount of your Lyft discount is determined by your city. Lyft coupon amounts range from $5 – $20.
Lyft does not currently offer $50 rider coupons in any city. If you see an offer for a $50 promo code for Lyft, it’s fake.
Click the button below to sign up for Lyft using a promo code, and get either a Lyft free ride or a few discounted Lyft rides.
2019 Lyft Promo Codes For Riders
Here are all the ways new and existing Lyft riders can earn ride credits on Lyft.
1. Lyft Ride Credit For New Users
As noted above, New Lyft riders can receive up to $20 in ride credits when they sign up. The credit amount is determined by city.
Lyft, like Uber, also limits the amount of credit you can use on any one Lyft ride.
So, even if you live in a town offering a $10 Lyft promo code, like Daytona, FL, you’ll only be able to use $5 in Lyft credits per ride. Same goes if you sign up for Lyft in a $20 promo code town.
2. Lyft Ride Discounts
Occasionally, new Lyft riders may also receive discounts on some rides they take in their first few weeks. These discounts seem to be pretty random though, but can still save you a few bucks.
3. Refer New Riders For Ride Credits
If you’re already a Lyft rider, you can get Lyft ride credits by referring new riders to Lyft.
Generally, you’ll get $5 in Lyft credit for each rider you refer, if they take a Lyft ride within 15 days of signing up for Lyft. Here’s how you do that.
First, from inside the Lyft app, click on “Free Rides”.
Then, you can email or text your friends your rider code.
Once they sign up for Lyft using your code and take their first Lyft ride, you will receive a ride credit in your account. Usually, the new rider referral amount is $5. You can also share your code on your social media accounts.
Can I Use A Lyft Code If I Am Already A Lyft Rider?
Unfortunately, no. If you’ve already taken a Lyft as a passenger, you can only get Lyft credits by referring new Lyft riders.
Current Lyft Promo Code Amounts By City
- Nassau County, NY (and a couple of other cities) – $20
- Daytona, FL (and a few other cities) – $10
- The Lyft referral code amount for Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Dallas, Houston, and almost every other city is $5.
A Brief History Of Lyft
Lyft is currently the fastest growing rideshare service in the United States. Lyft’s rideshare services are available in over 95% of the U.S., up from just 54% at the beginning of 2017.
Recently, Lyft began its long awaited international expansion to Canada.
The company has given over 1 billion rides, and is adding to those at a rate of over well over 1 million rides per day. Lyft recently went public, and is currently valued at over $23 Billion.
Over the past year, Lyft has used a two part strategy to power its growth. The first part involved promotions aimed at passengers.
The second part involved Lyft promotions aimed at drivers. The Lyft driver promotions included sign up bonuses, weekly guarantees, and weekly power driver bonuses.
Together, this strategy has allowed Lyft increase its market share, and more than double its business. Luckily, there are still a number of lucrative Lyft promotions that you can take advantage of, whether you’re looking to Drive With Lyft, or ride with Lyft. This is especially true in many of the newer Lyft markets.
The main difference between the Lyft promotions for riders and the Lyft promotions for drivers, is that Lyft driver promotions are paid in cash, while Lyft rider promotions are paid in ride credits or ride discounts.
Interested In Driving For Lyft: If you’re interested in signing up to Drive With Lyft, sign up with a Lyft driver promo code to get a Lyft sign up bonus of up to $800, or an earnings guarantee of up to $4400. Visit our Lyft Driver Promo Code page for more information.
Current Lyft Promotions For Drivers
In addition to Lyft referral codes for riders, Lyft also offers tons of new driver promotions.
Most drivers prefer Lyft over Uber.
Also, most drivers feel that Lyft treats them a little better. After all, Lyft has had in app tipping since the company started, and Lyft pays drivers higher rates than Uber for shared rides.
Another reason drivers may prefer Lyft is the sheer number of promos available to new and existing Lyft drivers.
There are currently six different Lyft driver promotions:
- Lyft Driver Sign up Bonus (used with Lyft Driver Referral Code)
- Lyft Driver Weekly Guarantee
- Lyft Driver Average Hourly Guarantee
- The Power Driver Bonus
- New Passenger Referral Bonus
- New Driver Referral Bonus
Lyft Driver Promotion 1: The Lyft Driver Sign Up Bonus
The first and most lucrative Lyft promotion is the new driver sign up bonus. This bonus is paid to the new Lyft driver on a per ride basis as soon as the driver starts completing rides.
The Lyft driver sign up bonus amount is primarily determined by the city in which the driver signs up. Lyft sign up bonuses currently range from $10 to $900, with a couple of Lyft cities featuring bonuses up to $2,500. In most cities though, the Lyft driver sign up bonus ranges from $300 to $600. Lyft driver sign up bonuses are double sided, meaning both the referring Lyft driver and the new Lyft driver are paid a bonus. That means that once you sign up, you can earn money not only from driving, but from referring new drivers.
In Order to begin receiving your Lyft driver sign up bonus, you must:
- Begin the Lyft application using a Lyft driver referral code.
- Enter the lyft driver promo code AZO on the application page or in the Lyft driver app.
- Be approved to Drive With Lyft within 30 days of starting your application.
- Begin completing Lyft rides. Your bonus will be paid immediately, on a per ride basis.
- A maximum of two rides to the same passenger will count towards the bonus. This is to keep new drivers from attempting to collect the bonus by giving a bunch of rides to friends or family members.
The Lyft driver sign on bonus varies greatly by city. A new Lyft driver in Philadelphia may receive a new driver promo of $600 for giving 150 rides in their first 45 days. Another new Lyft driver in Boston may receive a sign up bonus of $1000 for giving 250 rides in their first 60 days. A third driver in San Diego may receive $300 for giving 100 rides in their first 30 days. While we try and keep an up to date list of Lyft bonuses by city, the amounts change frequently and even vary within a city.
The Lyft driver sign up bonus is paid out per ride. So, if you sign up to Drive With Lyft and receive a sign up bonus of $500 for completing 100 rides in your first 30 days, you will receive an extra $5 for each ride you complete. If you complete all 100 rides, you will receive $500 in bonus money. If you only complete 50 rides within the 30 days, you will receive $250.
The best thing abou this Lyft driver promo is that your sign up bonus money is available immediately after you complete each ride. The per ride bonus amounts generally range from $2 to $5. If you have a bonus that pays an extra $5 per ride and you complete 10 rides in a day, you can cash out your $50 in bonus money, and your earnings from that day, immediately!
From the Lyft site:
Bonus amounts and ride requirements may vary based on the referring driver and the region of the referred applicant. Referring drivers can view the bonus requirements for applicants they refer in their market through the driver portal or app. These requirements may be different based on the applicant a driver is referring. Requirements may vary within a city, as well as across different cities.
Referred applicants may receive a communication from a referring driver with bonus requirements, however, please note that Lyft cannot control the final content of such communications and cannot be held liable for any inaccuracies that they may contain. Once a referred applicant has started their application, Lyft will send a confirmatory email to both the referring driver and referred applicant which will contain the relevant bonus amounts, ride requirements, and time limits needed to qualify for the bonus. Please contact us for details about your application.
Lyft Driver Promotion 2: Lyft Driver Weekly Guarantees
Lyft offers new and existing drivers in certain markets weekly guarantees. Lyft may send a new driver a guarantee of $800 if they complete 70 rides in a week. If the driver completes the 70 rides but only receives ride payments of $700, Lyft will pay the driver the difference. This helps incentivize new drivers to stay on the road for longer shifts.
Generally, fulfilling the lyft weekly guarantee requirements requires driving at least 35 hours a week. The number of rides required varies but tends to range from 30 to 80 rides. The guarantee amounts range from $500 to over $1000.
To fulfill the Lyft Weekly Guarantee requirements a driver must:
- Accept 90% of incoming ride requests
- Complete the required number of rides.
- Complete the required number of hours online
Additional Lyft weekly guarantee details from the lyft site.
Once you’ve been offered the weekly guarantee, there are a few more requirements to meet:
- Maintain a 90% weekly acceptance rate. Your weekly acceptance rate is listed on your Driver Dashboard.
- *Complete a set number of rides. Heads up: For Lyft Line rides, each requesting passenger you pick up counts toward the weekly goal.
- *Complete a set number of hours in driver mode. Hours in driver mode isn’t a rides-per-hour requirement. A driver can give three rides in one hour and zero rides the next hour. As long you’re in Driver Mode, both hours count to the weekly guarantee. There’s also no peak hour requirement for this promo.
- *The predetermined amount of rides and hours in driver mode vary by city. Amounts are outlined in the emails we send to eligible drivers.
Your weekly guarantee bonus calculations are available to view in the earnings breakdown of the Driver Dashboard.
At the end of each week (starting 5 am Monday through 4:59 am the next Monday), we add up all eligible gross (meaning pre-commission) ride payments and tips.
Eligible ride payments include:
- Pre-commission time and distance fares
- Prime Time
- Tips
Eligible ride payments don’t include:
- Tolls
- Airport fees
- The Service Fee
- Bonuses, such as an average hourly guarantee bonus
If the total eligible ride payments and tips for that pay period equal or exceed the guaranteed weekly amount, congrats! You’ve earned the guaranteed weekly amount.
If the total eligible ride payments aren’t equal or more than the guaranteed weekly amount, we take Lyft’s commission from the difference and bonus you the remainder.
Lyft weekly guarantee cities change frequently. However, Lyft weekly guarantees have recently been available in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Seattle, Virginia Beach, and Washington, D.C.
Lyft Driver Promotion 3: Lyft Driver Average Hourly Guarantees
Lyft also offers new and existing drivers in some markets guaranteed average hourly earnings. For example, Lyft may guarantee a driver $20 per hour (pre commission) during certain hours. If a driver satisfies the requirements while driving during those hours and does not make the guaranteed amount, Lyft will pay the driver the difference.
In order to qualify for Lyft average hourly guarantees, a driver must:
- Accept 90% or more of incoming rides.
- Spend 50 minutes of each eligible guarantee hour online.
So, say Lyft guarantees $20 per hour for 5 hours. Lyft will add up the gross ride payments from those hours. (Gross ride payments include the total amount the rider paid before Lyft takes its commission). Lyft will then divide the total ride payments by 5 hours. If the average is below $20 for those 5 hours, Lyft will pay the driver the difference.
Here’s a few average hourly guarantee examples from Lyft’s site (the amounts are just examples).
John opts in to a $30 Average Hourly Guarantee and a $25 Average Hourly Guarantee.
If one guaranteed hour was 7 am-7:59 am that week, John could qualify by driving 50 minutes in that span.
However, if John was in driver mode between 7:30 am and 8:30 am, he would have only logged 30 minutes during the eligible hour, which ended at 7:59 am. Thus, he wouldn’t meet the eligibility requirement for the hour of 7:00 am to 7:59 am.
Let’s say John drives in a city with guarantee zones. John begins a ride at 7:45 am inside a guarantee zone, but it ends at 8:05 am. This ride still counts toward the 7 am-7:59 am guaranteed hour because he was inside the guarantee zone when he accepted the ride.
John’s $30 Average Hourly Guarantee
At the end of week after a few more days of driving, John qualified for 10 guarantee hours at a $30/hour. His total gross eligible ride receipts for those hours came to $200.
Guarantee: $30/hour * 10 hours = $300
Earnings: $200
The difference between $300 (the guarantee) and $200 ( earnings) is $100. This is the amount we will bonus, after Lyft’s commission. So if John’s commission is 20%, we would take $20, and bonus the remaining $80.
John’s $25 Average Hourly Guarantee
John also qualified for 5 hours at the $25 Average Hourly Guarantee. His gross ride receipts for these hours came to $150.
Guarantee: $25/hour * 5 hours = $125
Earnings: $150
Because John’s earnings ($150) are higher than the guarantee ($125) John earned more than the guarantee (yay!) and wouldn’t receive an additional bonus.
*Average hourly guarantees are pre-commission. Any resulting bonuses are subject to Lyft’s commission. Power Driver Bonuses don’t apply to Average Hourly Guarantee bonuses. Terms apply and are subject to change.
Lyft Driver Promotion 4: The Power Driver Bonus
Unfortunately, Lyft phased out the Power Driver Bonus in 2018. The information below is preserved for archival purposes and no longer valid.
The Lyft Power Driver Bonus rewards drivers based on how much they drive each week. These bonuses can be very lucrative and can allow drivers to earn back most or all of the commission Lyft takes.
The power driver bonus generally has four levels. The first level may require a driver to give 30 rides in a week, with 10 rides during peak hours for a bonus of $80. Peak hours are the busiest hours, generally weekday rush hours and weekend evenings. If the driver completes those ride requirements, they will receive a bonus of $80.
The second level power driver bonus may be 50 rides, including 20 peak hour rides, for a $140 bonus. The third level may be 100 rides, including 35 peak hour rides, for a $250 bonus. The fourth level usually requires around 120-130 rides, with 40-45 rides during peak hours, for a $350 bonus.
These are only examples. The actual ride requirements and bonus amounts vary by city and by driver. Generally, to qualify for the top power driver bonus, you will have to drive at least 50 hours in a week. However, completing the top level power drive bonus often allows a driver to earn in excess of $1500 in a week (depending on the market).
Here’s more information about the power driver bonus from the Lyft site.
Drivers who successfully meet all Power Driver Bonus requirements can get additional earnings.
Power Driver Bonus resets weekly. If you qualified one week for Power Driver Bonus, you may not qualify the next week.
The Power Driver Bonus isn’t always available to all markets or drivers. If you don’t see an email from us about your eligibility, don’t be discouraged. Even eligible drivers may not qualify for the Power Driver Bonus.
Continue meeting the requirements below, and we’ll let you know whether you qualify. Always check your Driver Dashboard to see your eligibility for the current week and other details.
Lyft Driver Promotion 5: New Passenger Referrals
In order to keep the Lyft community growing, Lyft allows drivers to refer new riders using a Lyft promo code, and receive Lyft ride credits.
If a driver refers a passenger to Lyft, the new passenger will receive ride credits or ride discounts on their first few rides. The amount varies by city and the Lyft credits expire after 15 days.
Once a rider takes a ride, the referring driver will receive Lyft ride credits.
This bonus is generally available in all Lyft cities.
How to refer a new Lyft rider
Once you’re activated on the Lyft system, you can click on “Rider Referrals” in your driver dashboard to see your Lyft rider referral code.
You can even create a new personalized code. You can share this code with new riders in person or through social media. When they use your code to sign up with Lyft, and take a ride, you’ll get Lyft ride credits, usually $5.
Lyft Driver Promotion 6: New Driver Referrals
Once you’re approved as a driver, Lyft has an awesome driver referral program. Basically, you can refer new drivers to Lyft and both you and the new driver will receive a bonus. The referred driver must be approved and begin completing Lyft rides for you to begin receiving your driver referral bonus.
