In all cities, Lyft has moved away from cash sign up bonuses and towards earnings guarantees.

Current Lyft driver guarantee amounts range from a few hundred dollars up to $2100. However, the $2100 Lyft bonus guarantee is only available in a few cities (San Francisco), and requires completing over 200 rides.

The below image is of an older $3500 Lyft driver guarantee that is no longer in effect, but illustrates how the bonus works. Basically, Lyft guarantees you’ll make $3500 (gross pay, before Lyft takes their cut) if you do a certain number of rides in your first four weeks. If you do that, but don’t make $3500, Lyft will pay you the difference.

Lyft $3500 Earnings Guarantee

As you can see, the above guarantee required a new Lyft driver to give a lot of rides. This is why we only suggest manually entering a driver referral code if you plan on driving with Lyft full time.

Document requirements vary by market. Usually, you need your registration, license, and proof of insurance. But check your specific market requirements here.

After that, you just have to wait for approval.

Basic Lyft Driver Requirements

The Lyft driver requirements are as follows:

  • You must be at least 21 years old.
  • You must have had a license for at least one year.
  • You must be able to pass a background check.
  • You must have a relatively clean driving record.

If you don’t meet all the requirements above, you may still qualify to drive for Doordash.

Basic Lyft Vehicle Requirements

In most markets, a 2004 or newer model year car will qualify for Lyft. The car must have 4 doors and at least 5 seatbelts.

In certain markets, you’ll need a newer vehicle. Also, if you want to drive Lyft Lux, you’ll need a 2012 or newer qualifying vehicle.

See the Lyft vehicle requirements page for information for you specific market.

How Does The Lyft Driver Bonus Work?

As long as you use a Lyft driver promo code, or use our link when you sign up, you’ll get a Lyft earnings guarantee. However, you must be sure to enter a code when you begin your application.

To be clear, Lyft no longer offers cash bonuses for new drivers, only earnings guarantees.

The cash Lyft sign up bonus, when it did exist, was per ride. Here’s how it worked.

Say you signed up with Lyft in Los Angeles and you got a $800 sign up bonus, for giving 400 rides in your first 60 days.

So, you received a bonus of $2 on each ride you give.

Because the bonus is per ride, if you gave 200 rides in 60 days, you would still get a $400 sign up bonus, on top of your driver earnings.

Even better, you got paid part of your bonus each week. You didn’t have to wait 60 days to get the bonus!

If you gave 40 rides in your first week, you’d get an $80 bonus. That’s was on top of your regular Lyft driver earnings. Unfortunately, those days are gone, and Lyft will currently only guarantee that you will earn a certain amount.

How Much Will My Lyft Bonus Be?

It depends where you are located. Your Lyft sign up bonus is determined by where you’ll be driving.

The highest Lyft driver sign up bonus is currently $0 and the highest Lyft earnings guarantee is $2100. Sign up bonuses are no longer available. In all cities, Lyft has switched to a sign up earnings guarantee.

Beware Of The Fake Lyft Driver Referral Code

There are a number of sites out there promising $4000, or even $5000, cash sign up bonuses. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing.

So, if you see sites promising giant bonuses like that, you can be sure they are fake, or that you won’t get the promised amount.

Has The Lyft Driver Bonus Changed Over The Years?

Yes, when Lyft first started and until about 2017, it used to be a lump sum bonus instead of per ride. It worked like this.

A new Lyft driver would be required to complete a certain number of rides. After the driver completed the rides, they would receive their Lyft bonus. Then, Lyft changed the bonus and the driver received their Lyft bonus a little bit at a time, as they completed each ride, not after completing all the rides.

Once upon a time, there actually was a $5000 Lyft sign up bonus. It was in Los Angeles. The ride requirements were insane, something like 2000 rides in three months.

But, if you were able to complete all the rides, you would get a $5000 bonus, on top of your regular Lyft earnings.

At the beginning of 2019, Lyft completely stopped all bonuses that paid additional cash on top of driver earnings.

How Much Can I Make Driving With Lyft?

It depends. Earnings vary a lot between Lyft markets. However, Lyft drivers in cities with more than 500,000 people tend to earn more. Drivers who have a car that qualifies for Lyft Lux or Lyft XL can earn the most.

However, a driver in a smaller market like Oklahoma City is unlikely to earn as much as a driver in San Francisco, Boston, or Chicago.

When you first start to drive with Lyft, a realistic expectation is around $15 per hour. As you drive more and gain experience, your earnings should go up.

Pretty much every Lyft driver earns more in their second and third weeks driving, than in their first.

Lyft Bonuses And Streaks

If you drive with Lyft, you can also increase your earnings through various bonuses and incentives.

With Lyft streak bonuses and earnings guarantee promotions, drivers can add hundreds to their weekly pay.

What It’s Like To Drive With Lyft

It’s actually pretty routine most of the time. You pick people up, take them where they are going, and you get paid.

You meet some interesting folks and have some good conversations. Also, you learn your way around very well.

You also wind up becoming a better driver. After all, you’re driving more, and practice makes perfect.

Use Your Lyft Driver Referral Code To Earn More

Once you’re approved, you’ll receive your own Lyft driver referral code. Think of this as your own Lyft driver promo code.

You can give your Lyft driver referral code to friends or family. You can also post your code on your social media accounts. Some drivers even have Lyft promo code business cards made.

You can refer new riders and drivers. When they sign up, they can get free Lyft rides or a Lyft driver bonus. And as the referrer, you could get a Lyft driver referral bonus.

Doordash Vehicle Requirements For 2019

There are no specific Doordash vehicle requirements. You can pretty much use any car for Doordash. In most markets, you are also able to use a motorcycle, scooter, bike, or even walk while dashing.

Check your local Doordash driver vehicle requirements.

These are basic requirements that every Doordash dasher needs to meet. Much of the process you’ll go through is similar to what drivers for Uber and Lyft go through, but you don’t need to worry about specifics such as having a four-door car since you’re delivering food, not people.

Doordash jobs aren’t as complicated as you might expect. Once you fill out your application and get approved, you’re ready to start signing up for shifts and getting paid.

There’s usually no orientation or the need to shadow someone else. And because you’re setting your own hours, you’ll have greater freedom over deciding what days and times work best for your needs.

One important aspect to be aware of is you should know your city. The more efficient you are in getting around town, the more you’ll earn as a Doordash dasher.

So, if you’re new in town, get used to driving around, finding out where restaurants are and know your way around.

This includes learning about neighborhoods and residential roads, too. After all, you’ll need to drive to your customers once you’ve picked up food from the restaurant of their choice.

Be sure to check our Dasher Tips and Answers To Common Doordash Questions.

How To Use The Doordash Dasher App

Doordash dashers are independent contractors, so you’ll need to supply a few items. That includes your smartphone, car, insurance, and any supplies you might need for your work.

The good news is, all the supplies you purchase and the use of your phone, can get deducted for work purposes come tax time.

The dasher app is where you’ll perform the majority of your work as a driver.

Once you pass your background check and are approved to start dashing, the first thing you’ll need to do is choose when and where you want to dash. You can schedule dash shifts up to five days in advance, or six once you qualify for Dasher early access.

Peak times to drive doordash are usually on weekdays between 11:00AM – 2:00PM and 5:00PM – 9:00PM.

Once you start your shift, you’ll log in to the Doordash dasher app when you’re ready and tap “Dash Now.”

Each Doordash market is divided into zones. While you can choose to dash in different zones within your market, you must start in the zone you selected for your shift.

Demand in the Doordash app is color coded. The darker the red, the more need for dashers in that zone.

Once you start your shift, you’ll have the opportunity to take orders as they come in.

You’ll always be able to see the guaranteed earnings for the individual delivery up front.

Doordash Driver Pay – How Much Do Doordash Drivers Make?

When Doordash first started, they offered dashers a set amount per hour.

Doordash driver pay changed in 2017, and now Doordash no longer offers a minimum payout. This means it’s important to figure out what times you’ll make the most money.

However, Doordash does still tell you the minimum you’ll earn on each individual delivery, before you accept it.

Here are a few things to remember about driver pay when you’re venturing out for the first time.

  • There are certain peak periods where you are likely to earn the most. Generally, these are during lunch and dinner hours.
  • Certain periods may have bonuses attached to them.
  • Doordash will send you notifications that tell you about any specials for drivers going on.

Just as there are sign-on bonuses and promos for Lyft drivers who sign up, certain markets offer a sign up bonus or guaranteed earnings.

Doordash pays all dashers weekly by direct deposit. Any tips you received through the app get transferred during this time and are deposited with the rest of the money earned while driving. Drivers / Dashers on Doordash keep 100% of their tips.

Although the pay structure operates differently than it used to, you can still make a good part or full-time job out of driving for Doordash.

Find Out About Dasher Busy Pay Bonus Opportunities

As touched on earlier, there are certain times where you can earn extra working for Doordash than you normally would. Known as bonus periods, these get indicated on the app and vary based on where you’re located, what time of day it is, and if it’s a holiday.

Doordash calls these special times busy pay. They normally expect more customers to order during this period than there are drivers to serve them. As a consequence, dashers who drive during those times are likely to make more.

They want to encourage more drivers to come out during this time period, so they use this pay structure as a way for them to earn extra. This is a win-win for everyone since customers get their food and drivers make extra.

If you get a Busy Pay order, it’ll come up on the driver app when you’re alerted, so there’s no mistaking what it is. Take advantage of these when you can.

Learn How Tips Work for Drivers

While driving or dashing for Doordash, there’s more than one way to get a tip. While cash tips are always nice, customers can also tip directly in the Doordash delivery app.

If you bring your delivery to the customer and don’t get anything more than thanks, don’t assume they don’t appreciate your hard work or didn’t tip you. Many people don’t carry cash on them and look for alternative ways to tip servers and delivery drivers.

Also, the customer may not leave the tip in the Doordash customer app right away. If you don’t see the tip right away, check your Doordash earnings the next day.

Tips are often dependent on how quickly you bring the food to the customer, the time of day, if the order was checked for accuracy, and sometimes your personality. Gain a better understanding of what drives people to tip you, but understand that unfortunately, not everyone follows proper tipping etiquette.

People can rate drivers based on their delivery, so make sure to leave every customer with a smile and thank them for their business.

Know How Dashing Affects Your Vehicle

Because we’ve established you’ll work as an independent contractor, figure out how this impacts your car, motorcycle or bike. Some considerations to think about are:

  • How often you drive or deliver for Doordash
  • How far you’re driving or riding when you’re Dashing
  • The condition of the roads in your area
  • The weather and type of climate you live in
  • What kind of condition your vehicle is currently in

If you plan on making a decent portion of your money making the drive for Doordash, it’s important to learn ways to keep your maintenance costs down, and to keep track of your mileage to lower your tax bill.

Understanding Taxes and Being an Independent Contractor

If you’re used to bing an employee, you know that a certain amount gets withheld from your paycheck each week. That means you don’t have to set aside money come tax time.

When you’re working as an independent contractor for Doordash, you’ll notice taxes aren’t taken out. This sounds nice at first and can trick you into thinking you’re making more money.

Be careful, and make sure you’re setting aside part of your Doordash earnings. Setting aside money for tax time is important since you’ll likely owe taxes at the end of the year. Also, be sure to take every tax deduction you’re allowed to, including the mileage tax deduction.

Doordash Driver Tips to Help You Make the Most As A Dasher

As you get ready to embark on your journey of being a delivery driver for Doordash, you’re sure to learn a lot. No two days are ever the same, and you’ll be astounded by the variety of people you come in contact with.

Taking note of these tips makes life easier and ensures you’ll have fun while on the job. Doing so can help you walk away with more in tips and ensure your time gets spent in an effective manner.

1. Find the right times to schedule yourself. This is a cross between when people need drivers and when you have free time.

2. Even if a customer or someone in the restaurant you’re picking food up from come off as rude or unprofessional, don’t let that set the tone for your day. People have bad days, but you don’t have to let their attitude affect you.

3. Take advantage of bonus pay and working during busy hours whenever you can. This maximizes how much you’ll get paid, and you stand the chance of getting bigger tips if it’s a holiday or there’s a major event going on in your town.

4. If you’re having problems working or the company’s red card that allows you to pay for an order isn’t working, contact driver support. This ensures that there’s a record of the issue, and the problem gets solved in a quick manner.

Quick Guide To Lime And Lime Scooters

LimeBike made waves with its launch in 2017 as one of the very first bikeshare ventures in the United States. Building on the model of rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft, they offer simpler and more affordable modes of in-city transportation. While their name seems to be everywhere (the company shortened it to Lime in 2018), not many people actually know the specifics of the company or the opportunities it offers. If you fall into this category, here’s everything you need to know about Lime and their services.

What Is Lime (And LimeBikes and Lime Scooters)?

LimeBikes are simply grab-and-go style bike rentals that you use for a small fee. With a dockless system, riders can locate available bikes in their area, unlock them for their journey, and then simply leave them at their destination. This process is convenient as well as affordable. However, Lime’s bikes are being phased out in favor of scooters, which have become far more popular.

For now, there are two styles of LimeBikes available: Smart Bikes and E-Assist.

Smart Bikes are traditional, pedal-powered bikes that are integrated into the company’s smart app system. Lime offers three variations of Smart Bikes: one-speed, three-speed (shown below), and eight-speed.

Limebike rental 3 speed

Electric Assist (or Lime-E) bikes, on the other hand, offer a boost of electric power. While you’ll still pedal, the battery increases your power and makes it easier to bike around the city. In fact, the Lime-E bikes can reach speeds of up to 14.8 mph.

If you want to try an actual Limebike, you should do it soon, as the company is phasing out bikes, in favor of scooters.

What Are Lime Scooters?

Known as the Lime-S (shown below), Lime Bike scooters are designed to make it even easier to get around a city with fast travel speeds and affordable costs. Riders can rent the scooters in the same manner as LimeBikes, but since they’re electric, there’s no manual labor involved.

Lime Bike Lime-S Scooter

Where Is Lime Available?

Lime is rapidly increasing their service areas. Currently, their main focus is on cities and college campuses. The states they’re operating in include:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Missouri
  • New York
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Texas
  • Washington
  • Washington D.C.

Their biggest operating area is California, and some states only offer the service in one or two major cities. Also, Lime-S isn’t available in all of the cities that currently offer LimeBike. However, the company is working to expand their service area quickly.

How Much Do LimeBike Rentals Cost?

LimeBike rentals are incredibly affordable. There’s a standard rate for each bike and scooter rental, but exact costs for each electric model vary by city. Here’s a breakdown of their pricing model:

  • Smart Bikes: Manual LimeBikes cost $1 for every 30 minutes of use. If you’re a student, professor, or staff member of a college or university, you only have to pay 50 cents for each half hour. To qualify for this discount, you need to set up your Lime rider account with a valid .edu email address.
  • Electric Assist Bikes: Lime’s electric assist bikes charge a $1 base cost with an additional fee for each minute of usage. The per-minute charge varies by location, but on average, it ends up at around 15 cents.
  • Lime-S: For Lime’s electric scooters, you’ll experience a pricing formula similar to the electric LimeBikes. There’s an initial fee of $1 to unlock the scooter, and then you’ll be charged a location-specific rate for every minute of use.

The company offers a special pricing program for frequent riders. LimePrme is a monthly pay tier that allows you to pay $29.95 for around $100 of LimeBike credits. College and university faculty can purchase a LimePrime membership for $14.95. However, this service is only available for traditional, pedal LimeBikes and not their electric counterparts or scooters.

You can use our LimeBike promo code – R2WAI74 – to get $3 in ride credits when you sign up. Click the button below to download the Limebike app and get started with your free Limebike rides.

How to Rent a LimeBike

Limebike escooter rental start screen

Renting a LimeBike or Lime-S scooter is even easier than requesting an Uber or Lyft. You’ll need to first download the Lime app from the iTunes store or Google Play.  After you open the app, it’ll request that you sign up for the service, and then you’ll be able to enter your payment information.

Limebike Smart Bike Rental - Payment Entry

To rent a LimeBike or scooter, you’ll need to find a bike on the map. Your current position is designated with a little blue dot while rentals in the area are identifiable by the green Lime logo.

Limebike E-Assist Map

Choose a nearby option and walk to it. Once you’ve arrived, you will scan the QR code on the back of the LimeBike seat or on the scooter’s handlebar. This step unlocks the vehicle and you can begin your journey. Here’s a short video that shows how to rent a LimeBike scooter.

The app will track your time, distance, location, and cost in real-time, so you’ll always know what your total expense is. When you’ve reached your destination, you simply park the bike or scooter in a safe location. For bikes, you’ll move the lock lever on the back tire to reset it. For scooters, you’ll click “Lock” on the app screen. You’ll see your total charges and trip summary on the app’s screen, so be sure to double-check that the cost is correct.

Everything You Need to Know About LimeBike Juicers

After launching their electric scooter service, the company needed assistance with recharging their equipment for the next day. This has created a new type of LimeBike job position, known as a “juicer.” Learn more about this side hustle and how you can benefit from it, below.

What Is a LimeBike Juicer?

LimeBike juicers drive around their service area to collect scooters for charging. They then take the scooters home and charge them overnight for a fee. For this particular LimeBike job, you’ll operate as an independent contractor, which means you have more freedom than a conventional position.

How To Be A Limebike Juicer

How Much Do Lime Bike Juicers Make?

Lime pays their juicers for each scooter they charge. This fee varies by area, but you’ll know the total payment available when you click the scooter on your in-app map. On average, you can expect to earn around $5 per charge. Initially, the company will provide you with three chargers, but you can feasibly charge more than three machines per night. They only require the scooters to reach a 95 percent charge before considering the job completed.

The more well-charged machines will take one to two hours to charge, while those with less juice need around five to seven hours. If you pick up six Lime Bike scooters — three that are mostly charged and three with a nearly depleted charge, you could potentially earn $30 or more per night.

How to Become a LimeBike Juicer

To join the LimeBike juicer community, you simply need to sign up on their website. For this process, you’ll provide personal information, contact information, and your vehicle type. The company requires each juicer to have a vehicle available to them to transport the scooters, such as a car, SUV, truck, or minivan. After reviewing your application, a member of the Lime team will contact you over the phone or through email. This conversation provides all of the information you need to know about the charging process and what the company expects from you as a juicer.

Once approved, you’ll be able to turn on “Juicer” mode in your LimeBike app. After 8 p.m., you can begin collecting scooters in your area and start charging them. The app will provide you a general area to drop off each scooter in the morning. All Lime-S equipment must be charged and placed back into the community by 7 a.m. After you’ve dropped off the scooter, you’ll click “Served” on the app and instantly see how much you’ve made.

The Future of LimeBikes and Lime-S Electric Scooters

LimeBikes and scooters make in-city travel convenient and affordable, but they also offer a money-making opportunity for locals. As the company expands, they’ll need more and more LimeBike juicers to keep up with demand. If you’re looking for a quick way to complement your income, scooter rental services, like Lime and Bird, provide a fantastic opportunity to earn money with minimal effort. Via Driver: How To Drive For Via Rideshare

(Disclosure – We independently research our content to provide free advice for you. We may get compensation if you sign up with services, or purchase products through our affiliate links. We are not affiliated with or sponsored by Via Transportation.)

The rideshare industry has exploded in recent years. Lyft and Uber only seem to increase in popularity among commuters, but now there’s a new player in town—Via. The Via rideshare service is unlike any other option on the market, and as result, it’s quickly becoming a major competitor in certain markets like Chicago, London, New York and Washington, D.C. If you’re interested in becoming a Via driver, take a closer look at what the company is bringing to the table.

Currently, Via is offering up to a $2500 (Chicago, other cites have different amounts) sign up earnings guarantee. In addition, you may also receive a $30 bonus after giving your first ride!

How to Become a Via Driver

You can sign up using our referral link by clicking the button below.

Via Sign Up Bonus

What Is Via Rideshare?

Via is an on-demand rideshare service that mimics the arrangement of public transportation but without the hassle. Via provides flat rate rides to passengers along efficient preset routes, like a shuttle service.

The service is similar to other carpooling rideshare options, like Lyft Line and UberPOOL. However, instead of picking up riders that are nearby, Via’s system sets strategic pick-up locations on designated routes. It’s similar to Uber Express Pool, but with higher pay.

Unlike the other services, Via actually pays drivers more when they are matched with multiple riders along the same route.

Riders are matched to a preset trip in their current vicinity, and then they walk a short distance (usually about a block or so) to a chosen pick-up spot that’s convenient for the driver.

What Sets Via Apart From Lyft And Uber?

Via serves a niche section of the market, so it’s slightly different than other rideshare options. There are three main qualities that set Via apart from companies like Lyft and Uber:

  • Low Commssions
  • Efficiency
  • Live Support
  • Flat Rates

Via only takes a 10% commission on rides, far lower than Uber or Lyft (cities also take a cut, so the overall commission is 15-20%).

Via’s rideshare service is designed around efficiency in high density areas. Trips follow specific routes on a consistent basis, resulting in less downtime, and fewer miles on your car.

Via’s drivers have the benefit of live support through text and by phone. While Lyft has decent driver support, some drivers find Uber support to be lacking.

The rideshare company’s flat rate system offers riders an incredibly affordable travel option.

While they’re fairly simple in nature, such unique attributes are why Via is quickly becoming a true competitor in the rideshare industry.

Where is Via Available?

Currently, Via is available in the following cities:

  • Via Chicago Rideshare
  • Via NYC Rideshare
  • Via Washington D.C. Rideshare
  • Via Arlington, TX
  • Via West Sacramento

Via also operates ViaVan, a new rideshare service they launched in London in April, 2018.

Via’s rideshare arrangement is best suited for large metropolitan areas, so you can expect them to add more markets, like Seattle and Los Angeles, in the future. However, the niche focus may not allow it to enter smaller cities.

Via Vehicle And Driver Requirements

Via’s driver requirements are similar to Uber and Lyft. All applicants must pass a criminal and driving history background check before they’re approved to drive for the company. While you can’t drive with Via in New York City until you obtain a special TLC license, the company offers a variety of resources to help you through the process with ease.

The real difference between Via and their industry counterparts is the vehicles they accept. The company has stricter vehicle requirements in place, as they hope to provide a more high-end riding experience. Non-luxury vehicles can’t be older than 2010 models, while luxury models dating back to 2005 and newer are welcomed. They prefer cars and SUVs that are black, dark grey, or dark blue with leather interiors, but they’ll accept options with fabric seating as long as they’re newer models—2014 is the cut-off.

If your vehicle is not on Via recommended list, Via encourages you to apply anyway. They may allow your vehicle even if it’s not on the list.

All Via drivers must have their vehicle inspected. The rideshare company offers reduced service prices at their partner centers, but the costs are out-of-pocket for applicants. Via Chicago drivers must also schedule a new inspection yearly to stay in the fleet.

If you don’t have a vehicle or your current model doesn’t meet the minimum criteria, you can rent or lease one. The company has partnered with a few leasing companies to allow their drivers to begin earning quickly. However, the service is currently only available in NYC.

Via Driver Earnings

Via pay varies by market, but Via drivers tend to earn a bit more than Uber and Lyft drivers. According to one study, Via drivers earn 43% more than Lyft drivers and 35% more than Uber drivers.

Overall, expect to earn in the $15-$20 per hour range, with earnings above $20 per hour during peak times. Earnings for NYC, and SUV drivers, can be higher.

Full time drivers can definitely earn over $1000 a week driving for Via.

ViaBlue vs. ViaFlex

Via rideshare utilizes two earning styles: Blue and Flex.

ViaBlue is set up with an hourly earnings guarantee, so drivers are paid a guaranteed minimum per hour regardless of the number of passengers and trips they take. Based on demand, Via limits the number of drivers who can be online at once with ViaBlue.

ViaFlex does not have an hourly earnings guarantee. Other than that, it’s the same as ViaBlue.

Once the threshold for ViaBlue drivers is hit, drivers can still go online, but only in Flex mode. You still end up making the same fares per journey and incentives still apply, but you are not guaranteed to earn a certain amount per hour like you are on ViaBlue.

Via has put together a couple of short videos (there’s no sound on these two) explaining both modes.

Fare Breakdowns

Via’s driver fares are calculated based on a few different factors. These components include:

  • Base fare
  • Trip time
  • Distance

While the rider pays a flat fee, the driver’s earnings vary per trip. Each city has its own base rates. For example, Via NYC drivers are provided with a base fare of $2.55 plus $.35 per minute and $1.75 per mile.

There’s also the variable of hourly rates. If you’re operating in Blue mode and you don’t end up reaching the guaranteed amount, the company will automatically increase your payout to match. Via sets the amounts ahead of time, so you know the minimum earnings you stand to make. The rates also fluctuate throughout the day based on statistical demand, which results in higher hourly rates during peak hours.

Boosts

During certain peak hours, the company offers rate hikes to encourage drivers to hit-the-road during those periods. Via will send out an alert the night before to allow drivers to plan accordingly. During Boosts, the hourly rate for drivers in Blue mode further increases, but unfortunately, Flex mode drivers don’t benefit from the perk.

Via Sign Up Bonus Guarantee

The bonus guarantee program provides a safeguard for those just entering the fleet. As long as you complete the required number of trips during a preset period (usually 100 rides in 30 days), they’re guaranteed to make $1,000.

There’s also a tiered signing bonus that encourages fleet members to continue driving. With each trip milestone, you’ll receive an additional bonus. Here’s how it’s broken down:

  • 1 Ride – $30
  • 30 Rides – $70
  • 100 Rides – $300

Rocket Pay

As with Uber and Lyft, Via offers surge pricing, which is known as Rocket Pay. When there’s an unexpected increase in demand, the company implements increased rates for a certain period of time. Drivers that accept rides when Rocket Pay is in place receive an automatic increase in fare rates.

Sharing Premium – The Via Multiplier System

One great thing about Via is their multiplier system. Other companies’ variations of carpooling actually offer their drivers lower fares than its single-trip counterparts. Via’s rideshare arrangement does the complete opposite – drivers earn more for each passenger they pick up. The Sharing Premium is designed to multiply the trip fare when additional passengers are matched to the driver’s route. The increase is broken down like this:

  • 2 Pick-Ups – 5 percent extra.
  • 3 Pick-Ups – 10 percent extra.
  • 4 Pick-Ups – 15 percent extra.
  • 5 Pick-Ups – 20 percent extra.

Commission

As with all rideshare companies, Via takes a commission from its drivers’ earnings. While Lyft and Uber pull out 25 percent to 40 percent of each fare, Via only takes 10 percent. Therefore, drivers end up taking home way more than their industry counterparts.

Along with the 10 percent commission, the cities Via operates in also take a cut. Chicago takes out a fee of 5 percent, while NYC and Washington D.C. take an additional 10 percent. While it does cut into your overall profits, the total commision and fee charges are still less than Uber and Lyft.

How to Become a Via Rideshare Driver

If Via sounds like the perfect company for you, it’s time to apply. The application process is fairly straightforward and similar to signing up for Uber or Lyft. Here’s how to do it.

1. Create an Account

First, you need to create an account. One the main sign up page, you’ll fill in basic information, including your name, email, phone, and driving city.

Drive With Via - Application Start

2. Vehicle Information

Then, you need to provide information regarding your vehicle. If you need to rent or lease one, you can choose that option instead.

Via Driver Application - Vehicle Type

3. Your Information

Next, you’ll provide your address and bank account information, so you can get paid. You’ll also need to submit your social security number so that the rideshare company can run a background check.

Via Application - Payment Info

4. Document Upload

Finally, you’ll upload your license and insurance documents.

Drive With Via Application - Document Upload

As you can see, the process is similar to the Uber and Lyft applications, so it shouldn’t require a lot of time. If approved, you’ll also need to arrange an inspection for your vehicle. After you’re given the all-clear, you can hit the road, but you’ll need to download the driver app first—it’s available on the iTunes Store and Google Play.

If you live in Chicago, New York City, Washington D.C., West Sacramento, or Arlington, TX, then you can click the button below (disclosure – referral link) to start your Via application and get your sign up bonus guarantee.

If you’re not in one of those cities, don’t worry. Via’s success thus far has already turned heads, so they should begin expanding to even more markets in the near future.

Lyft App - Lyft Shared

The Lyft App: Your Guide to the Revamped Lyft Passenger App

The Lyft App: Your Guide to the Revamped Lyft Passenger App

Earlier this summer, Lyft introduced a revamped app for passengers. The new Lyft app combines ease of use with an emphasis on shared rides, and integration with city transit systems.

Overall, the new Lyft passenger app is a vast improvement, with a cleaner interface, and improved performance, to get you a ride faster.

Lyft App Changes

The home screen of the new Lyft rider app simply asks, “Where are you going?”

Nearby Lyft drivers appear on the map so you can see just how close your potential ride is to your location. Simply type in your destination address or choose from one of your saved locations.

Lyft App - Where are you going?

One Tap to Ride

One of the most convenient Lyft app updates is the “one tap to ride” feature. You can quickly request your most frequented destinations—home, work, a favorite restaurant – with a simple click.

Once you choose your destination, you’re prompted with a list of Lyft ride options. Lyft pricing, arrival time, and vehicle size is presented clearly in the app for easy comparison. Go for a traditional Lyft ride or opt for Lyft XL if you have a large group.

Lyft Passenger App - Shared or Classic Lyft

Move Your Pickup Spot

Anyone who’s used a rideshare app around tall buildings knows they don’t always get your exact location right.

Now, in the Lyft rider app, once you select your Lyft vehicle type, you can move your pickup spot to a more specific location if needed.

Lyft Passenger App - Pin Location

If you’re in a busy area, the new Lyft passenger app may even suggest a pickup location that may allow your driver to get to you faster. This feature aims at making pickup less confusing and time consuming.

The ride company tested its side street pickup method earlier this year in San Francisco, CA, where over 20,000 pickups were diverted to side streets. By moving points of contact to less congested areas, drivers can be more readily available to the waiting passenger.

Watch Your Trip

You’ll also see an easy-to-read map with a clear time of pickup, highlighted route, and estimated arrival time so you can plan your trip and arrive on time.

Lyft Line Changes to Lyft Shared

With the new Lyft passenger app comes a new name to one of Lyft’s service lines. Lyft has changed the name of it’s shared rides service from Lyft Line to Lyft Shared.

On Lyft Shared, you request a ride for you, and up to one other person (two max). On your ride, your driver may pick up and drop off additional passengers who are going the same way as you.

Lyft has always emphasized shared rides. In July 2017, the company raised the driver pay rates for Lyft Shared rides to match regular Lyft rides.

It was the first time a rideshare company announced a pay increase for drivers nationwide.

A year later, the updated Lyft app marks another step forward for shared ride improvement. Lyft is focusing on shared rides as a way of lowering their carbon footprint. By 2020, the company is aiming to have shared rides account for 50 percent of all Lyft rides

The new version of the Lyft rider app furthers this goal by featuring shared rides more prominently. In markets where Lyft Shared is available, when passengers choose a destination, the shared ride option is now listed first.

Lyft Rider App - Show Route

Company execs say the change has already prompted a 5 percent increase in Lyft Shared rides.

Lyft Shared Ride Pricing

Lyft Shared (formerly Lyft Line) pricing depends on your city, driver availability, and the likelihood of getting paired with another rider.

However, Lyft Shared is always cheaper than a standard Lyft ride.

The new Lyft app shows you upfront how much your shared ride will cost. That’s the price you pay, whether you’re matched with other riders or not.

Oh, and be ready at the pickup point when you request your ride!

Lyft Shared drivers will wait no longer than one minute since other riders are waiting.

You can see if Lyft Shared is available near you on the Lyft city listings page.

Lyft Bike, Scooter And City Integration Plans

The new Lyft passenger app can integrate with public transportation systems. The first two integrations will be in Marin County and Santa Monica, California. Lyft will be partnering with the Transportation Authority of Marin and the Big Blue Bus in Santa Monica.

At the end of June, Lyft acquired Motivate, North America’s oldest and largest bikeshare company. The move is part of Lyft’s strategy to strengthen its eco-friendly approach to offering transportation.

Motivate provided 80 percent of all bikeshare rides in America last year, running platforms in major cities like:

  • Citi Bike in New York
  • Ford GoBike in the San Francisco Bay area
  • Divvy in Chicago
  • Blue Bikes in the Boston metro area
  • Capital Bikeshare in the Washington, D.C. metro area
  • BIKETOWN in the Portland metro area
  • CoGo in Columbus, Ohio
  • Nice Ride in Minneapolis

Bikeshare plays into Lyft’s approach to integrate with city transportation systems and offer more options for community members.

Lyft’s purchase of Motivate positions the company well for the future:

  • Lyft Passenger App Integration: Lyft will eventually be able to let riders rent bikes in the Lyft rider app, similar to what Uber has done with Uber Bikes. Riders can skip the traffic and avoid busy major routes by using bicycles and scooters (more on that in a moment).
  • Existing Bikeshare Infrastructure: Lyft’s buyout of Motivate comes with contracts and relationships already in place in major cities across the U.S. Rather than battling the competition of other transportation outlets, Lyft is now partnering with them to give you more options.

Now, About Those Scooters

In San Francsico, Lyft is one of several companies that have applied to operate motorized scooter rentals. Tentatively, the new venture is called Lyft Bikes.

Lyft Bikes and (potentially) scooters create an alternative to walking or enlarging the carbon-footprint with more vehicles.

The advantage to consumers is obvious, but some argue the scooters are more hassle than they’re worth. After San Francisco became littered with scooters left on street corners and sidewalks, the city instituted permitting requirements.

The city says it will decide soon which of twelve companies will be granted the permits. Each will operate 250 scooters under a 12-month trial program.

Lyft is vying against Uber, Spin, LimeBike, Bird, Razor, Scoot, Ofo, Skip, CycleHop, Ridecell, and USScooter for a permit. City leaders say after six months under the pilot, they’ll reevaluate and consider doubling the number of e-scooters available.

Lyft’s San Francisco scooter pilot program would serve as a launch pad to put scooters in other cities.

While the recent Lyft app refresh makes it easier for those hoping to share their commute with another passenger or get to their destination faster, more options could be on the horizon. Bike and scooter sharing could soon mean anytime you want to leave your home but don’t want to walk, you’ll be able to use Lyft to get to your destination.

The Lyft rider app highlights the importance and demand for shared ride availability, working in tandem with public transportation platforms, and speed of service. Based on the company’s moves toward alternative transportation, it’s safe to say this summer’s update will likely not be the last Lyft app change we see.

Caviar Delivery Driver Pickup

Caviar Courier Guide: Become a Caviar Driver

[toc]

With the number of delivery services popping up all over the country, it isn’t a surprise that many individuals are choosing to become delivery drivers. It’s a great way to earn extra cash, but the company you partner with is a key component in your overall success. One of the fastest growing on demand delivery apps is Caviar, a great option whether you want to boost your current income or work full time.

What Is a Courier?

Caviar is a food delivery service and couriers are the delivery drivers. Customers utilize the Caviar app, which is available for both Apple and Android devices, to order food from partnering restaurants in the area.

Caviar focuses exclusively on food, usually from higher end restaurants. A single focus provides customers with an upscale image, likely to build loyalty and keep patrons coming back again. The focus on higher end restaurants can also lead to higher tips for drivers. Caviar also has exclusive relationships with many of the restaurants on the platform.

Caviar delivery also offers a great feature that gives it the upper hand compared to competitors like Doordash and UberEats: its commercial focus. Caviar makes it extremely easy for businesses to put in group orders for their teams, allowing each person to add their own dishes. Companies can also create corporate accounts so their employees can order on a regular basis as well as request catering. Since the size of the order is factored into a courier’s payment, this feature boosts your potential single-delivery earnings as a Caviar courier.

As a courier, you’ll accept delivery requests in your area and receive a payment for each. Caviar delivery drivers can choose which jobs they take, so you aren’t required to accept a request. When you do accept a delivery, you’ll drive to the restaurant, pick up the order, and deliver it to the customer. The process is truly as simple as that.

Here’s a great video explainer Caviar put together for drivers.

Courier Pay

Instead of a set delivery amount for each location, Caviar uses its own algorithm to determine the driver’s earning for every single order. Their formula factors in mileage, expected time, and size of the delivery. Fortunately, drivers have the opportunity to view the prospective payout before accepting a delivery.

Caviar drivers can earn up to $25 per hour. This is according to Caviar, but actually seems backed up by responses from couriers online. However, there are a variety of factors that determine driver pay.

Current location prices and demand are the most unpredictable factors of the job, so what Caviar DC drivers make on average is likely to be drastically different than Caviar Chicago drivers. As a result, the best way to determine an accurate hourly estimate is to speak with delivery drivers in your area.

Caviar Driver Sign Up Bonus

As a new Caviar delivery driver, you may be eligible for a sign up bonus. Start your application (and fill in your city) to see your amount. Caviar sign up bonus amounts vary by city, but are usually around $50.

Join Caviar

Be sure to check out Doordash as well. They currently deliver in 1,800 markets across all 50 states.

Cash App

Caviar does offer instant pay for couriers using their Cash App. This program allows Caviar couriers to process their payouts more quickly. Instead of waiting for four to five days for your earnings to transfer, you’ll have instant access to the funds.

Caviar cash app - driver instant pay

Caviar Driver Requirements

To deliver for Caviar, you need to meet certain requiements. Here is a breakdown of Caviar’s requirements:

  • Age: Couriers need to be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience: None required at this point in most markets.
  • Insurance: If you are using a car or motorcycle, you need to have auto insurance.
  • Technology: Android or IOS smartphone.
  • Vehicle: You can drive for Caviar with traditional modes of transportation, including cars, trucks, bikes, and scooters.
  • Background check: Criminal backround check, and driver background check in most cases.

Age

All drivers must be at least 18 years of age. Their company’s minimum age requirement is three years younger than rideshare services like Lyft and Uber. As a result, many individuals that don’t qualify for rideshare companies based on age turn to delivery services.

Experience

One of the biggest differences between Caviar and other delivery services, like Postmates or Doordash, is their experience requirement. To join the Caviar fleet in certain markets, you may need at least one year of verifiable experience. This requirement is typically met by working for another delivery company or for a rideshare service, but you can also meet the criteria with previous experience for a local restaurant or eatery. Caviar has loosened this requirement significantly in recent months.

Technology

From accepting deliveries to payments, the whole Caviar system is based around their app. As a result, you need to have a an smartphone to qualify as a courier.

Vehicle Transportation

One of the biggest perks of Caviar is that they don’t require you to own a traditional automobile to join their courier fleet. While you can make deliveries in a car, truck, or SUV, you can also work using a bicycle or scooter.

Background Check

All Caviar delivery drivers must pass a background check. Since couriers don’t transport passengers, the standards on driving records aren’t as strict as rideshare companies. However, they are serious about background checks. Any presence of violent crimes or theft will eliminate you from the driver pool.

The Caviar Application Process

If you’re ready to drive for Caviar, you’ll need to complete the application process. Caviar is currently offering sign up bonuses for new drivers in some markets.

Luckily, Caviar utilizes one of the simplest application processes of any delivery service. Here are the four steps involved:

1. Create an Account

To apply, you’ll visit the Caviar driver signup page. Once there, you’ll create an account by entering your email and choosing a password.

Caviar Delivery Driver Sign Up

2. Provide Your Information

On the next page, you’ll enter your name, address, phone number, and birthdate. You’ll also choose which city you want to work in, and the vehicle type you’ll be using. You can be a Caviar delivery driver with a:

  • Car
  • Bike or Cargo Bike
  • Motorcycle
  • Scooter

Click “Complete Sign Up” at the bottom and wait for a response.

Caviar Courier Driver Sign Up bonus

3. Download The App And Wait For Approval

You will now be prompted to download the Caviar Courier app.

If your application is approved (you may be waitlisted), the company may contact you to set up an orientation. Local Caviar offices offer multiple orientations each week, so you’re sure to find a day and time that works with your schedule. During the meeting, any required documentation will be verified. This step is followed by a 90-minute orientation that explains the ins and outs of the delivery service so that you can efficiently complete your job as a Caviar delivery driver.

4. Background Check

Before you can hit the road and make deliveries, you’ll need to wait for your background check. Since they don’t require that applicants upload verifying documents ahead of time, this process doesn’t begin until your orientation is complete. As long as your criminal record comes back clean, you should get the official go-ahead within a week.

Caviar Delivery Cities

Caviar delivery is currently available in the following cities and their surrounding areas. However, given their recent acquisitions and expansion plans, expect this list to grow.

  • Boston, MA
  • Brooklyn, NY
  • Chicago, IL
  • Dallas, TX
  • Fort Worth, TX
  • Knoxville, TN
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Manhattan, NY
  • Marin County, CA
  • Northern Virginia
  • Orange County, CA
  • Peninsula, CA
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Portland, OR
  • Queens, NY
  • Richmond, VA
  • Rockville, MD
  • Sacramento, CA
  • San Francisco (and East Bay), CA
  • San Diego, CA
  • Seattle (and Eastside Seattle), WA
  • Walnut Creek, CA
  • Washington DC
  • Woodbridge, VA

The majority of these are limited to major metropolitan areas. So, if you want to drive for Caviar Philadelphia, there’s an opportunity available, but in more rural locations, like Springfield, IL, there isn’t an option for you yet. However, the company is working to rapidly expand their markets. If they’re not currently in your city, they may be soon.

While the actual job is straightforward, there are a variety of things you should consider before deciding to join the fleet. Take a closer look at the specifics of what it means to be a Caviar courier, below.

Caviar Insurance Coverage

You do not need additional auto insurance to drive for Caviar.

Caviar Occupational Accident Insurance

Caviar, in a first for delivery companies, recently began covering all couriers for accidents that occur on the job. The coverage is free, and active as soon as a driver accepts a delivery.

The policy is provided through OneBeacon.

Caviar Occupational Accident Benefits

  • Up to $1M per accident
  • $100k accidental death benefit & survivor’s benefits for dependents
  • Disability, both temporary and continuous, at 50% of average weekly earnings

Caviar is the only one of the major delivery companies to offer this coverage for free on all deliveries.

Additional Benefits of Becoming a Caviar Courier

In terms of delivery services, Caviar stands out from the pack for a number of reasons. Here are a few benefits you’ll receive as a courier:

  • Upfront Estimates: While the company doesn’t use flat rates for their delivery service, they do provide upfront estimates to drivers before they accept an order. This factor is one of the top perks for driving for Caviar. It takes the guesswork out of each order’s earnings so that you know exactly what you’re getting into before you accept the job.
  • Instant Payouts: As a Caviar delivery driver, you can transfer your earnings to a traditional bank account, but there’s typically a wait time for the transaction to process. To combat this issue, Caviar has partnered with Cash App. The service provides a payout-specific account and a debit card. If you choose to utilize this service, you can instantly transfer your payments directly to Cash App and access your money instantly with the Caviar debit card.
  • Schedule Freedom: As a courier, you operate as an independent contractor. This translates to complete freedom with regards to your work schedule. You can work when you want, for as long as you want. Such flexibility provides the opportunity to set your own income goals because you’re not tied down by a specific salary or hourly wage.

These benefits aren’t entirely exclusive to Caviar, but they do make the company a popular choice for delivery drivers.

Uber Eats Driver Guide: Sign Up As An Uber Delivery Driver

[toc]

Last updated: [last-modified]

(Disclosure – We independently research our content to provide free advice for you. We may get compensation if you sign up with services, or purchase products through our affiliate links.)

Uber is no longer just a rideshare service. In August 2014, the rideshare giant launched a food delivery service to compete with Postmates. It was first called Uber Fresh, and then quickly rebranded UberEats. I was an original Uber Eats driver for the pilot program.

At that time, customers were only offered pre-made meals that drivers would pick up at distribution points. Each day (at lunch and dinner time only) there would be a set menu from a few restaurants.

Since then, the company has shifted to a model where an UberEats driver picks up customers’ orders from restaurants (often those without a delivery service) and deliver them for a fee. They also made the name two words, Uber Eats instead of UberEats.

Expanding rapidly, Uber Eats (sometimes called Uber delivery) is now available in over 300 cities around the world. If you’re interested in earning extra cash by becoming an Uber Eats driver and you’d like to know how it works, here’s everything you need to know.

Sign Up To Drive For Uber Eats With An Uber Promo Code

If you sign up to be an Uber delivery driver using a promo code, you could be eligible for an earnings guarantee of up to $2800. Guarantee amount is determined by city.

Current Uber Drivers: How To Opt-In To Uber Eats

If you’re already a current driver for Uber, all you’ll need to do to start delivering is opt-in to Uber Eats. Simply go to your Uber Driver app and, in the home screen, scroll down to the message that reads “Get More Requests by Upgrading to Delivery.” Then, click on “Yes! I want to do delivery” and follow the subsequent prompts to add Uber Eats to your profile.

If you don’t see the message, or you run into problems activating your delivery account, contact Uber Support and ask for Uber Eats to be added to your profile. You can also opt in by going to partners.uber.com, clicking deliveries, and activating Uber Eats on your account.

How Does Uber Eats Work?

As a driver for Uber Eats, you will receive a request for a delivery much like you would for an Uber ride. The delivery job will pop up on your screen, and you tap the screen to accept the job.

drive for uber eats - ubereats driver 1

Then, you’ll see information about the pickup location and order. This will allow you to see the order’s contents along with the customer’s name and order number, which you will give to the restaurant employees.

You’ll click navigate for directions and drive to the restaurant to pick up the order.

drive for uber eats - ubereats driver pickup

Once you’ve picked up the food, you deliver it to the customer.

Uber delivery - uber eats driver delivery drop off

Payments are handled within the app, so you will not need to deal with any money. You are then paid for the delivery service.

Depending on the city you are in and the order you are delivering, you may need to get out of your car to complete the delivery. Check your app to see if you’re making a curbside delivery or a walk-in drop-off.

In a curbside delivery, the customer will get a text indicating that you’ve arrived, and you can also call them to be sure they know their food is there. Then, you’ll wait for them to come down so you can hand them their food through the window. A walk-in drop-off means you’ll need to meet them at their door with their food, calling them if you have any problem finding the address.

Uber has also put together a great Uber delivery driver guide and a list of great Uber Eats driver tips. These guides and the info on this page should come in handy as you get started.

Driving Uber Eats and UberX at the same time

Since Uber Eats’ parent organization is Uber, you’ll also have the opportunity to give rides for Uber at the same time you deliver food for Uber Eats (if you and your vehicle have been accepted by Uber).

Just go to the Uber Driver app, click the right corner, and tap on “Open to all trips.” From there, you can select if you want to accept ride or delivery requests, or both.

Uber delivery pay - trip preferences

You can uncheck either option whenever you want. Delivering for Uber Eats goes hand in hand with driving for Uber as lulls in rides tend to happen around mealtimes, when Uber Eats picks up.

Uber Eats Driver & Vehicle Requirements

While you have to be 21 to drive UberX, for Uber Eats, the requirements are much less stringent, making it ideal for those who are younger or less experienced than Uber’s stringent driving rules permit.

In most cities, you can deliver for Uber Eats in a car, or on a scooter or bicycle. In a few cities, you can even deliver on foot. The Uber Eats car requirements are also less restrictive than they are for UberX.

If you’re planning on driving for Uber Eats, these are the basic driver and vehicle requirements.

Uber Eats Car Requirements

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Have a 2-door or 4-door car made after 1999
  • Have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • Have at least one year of driving experience in the U.S.

Uber Eats Scooter Requirements

  • Any make or model 2-wheel scooter
  • Motor must be 50cc or less with a maximum top speed of 30 mph

Uber Eats Bike Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a government-issued ID

Other Uber Eats Driver Requirements

You must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.

Although food deliveries are rarely heavier than three or four pounds, you may get the odd large order that is very heavy, so you’ll need to have the ability to carry it to the customer. You may also need to walk up to the customer’s door (depending on the city), so be sure you’re ready to get a little exercise.

You must use an insulated delivery bag. Upon approval, Uber will mail you an insulated bag. Do not put hot and cold items in the same bag. You can also order your own from the wide variety of insulted bags available on Amazon.

Drive For Uber Eats

How Much Does Uber Eats Pay?

Uber delivery pay varies from market to market. Overall, Uber Eats pays about 15 to 20% less than driving for UberX, but you don’t have to deal with any passengers. Nationally, Uber drivers make about $15.50 per hour. However, in larger markets, Uber drivers routinely make more.

If you’re delivering for Uber Eats, expect to make around $12-$13 per hour when you start out, depending on your market. With a few weeks experience, that number should go up.

Uber Eats pay can vary dramatically based on the city, time of day, traffic, and day of the week. Because this is a food delivery service, lunch and dinner rushes are the most lucrative times to deliver, so it is imperative to work at these times if you want to make the most money possible.

Many UberX drivers will take Uber Eats requests when there aren’t many ride requests coming in. Since drivers receive Uber ride requests and Uber Eats delivery requests through the same Uber driver app, it’s really easy to do both.

Uber Eats calculates payments independently of time, paying only per pickup, per mile driven between pickup and customer, and per drop off. Then, Uber takes a commission (often around 25%) out of that amount. So, the payment equation is: pickup + mileage + drop off – Uber’s cut = your profit.

Uber Eats also offers an in-app tipping feature that gives customers the chance to tip you after the order is delivered and after they rate you. However, the practice of tipping varies wildly from city to city.

Uber Eats Surge and Boost

Surge and boost opportunities are also available in Uber Eats, just as with Uber itself. The boost zones will show up in your Uber Driver app and represent an earnings multiplier for areas with high order demand and not enough drivers.

The multiplier is added to your profit after Uber’s cut is taken out and does not include any tips you make. Surge pricing, the other earnings multiplier you can take advantage of, is also due to high demand but is much less predictable than boost.

Uber Eats Driver Instant Pay

Uber Eats does offer an instant pay option. No need to wait until next week to get paid. You can cash out your earnings each day, or multiple times a day if you wish. Uber does charge a $0.50 convenience fee each time you use instant pay though.

Is It Worth It?

Because Uber Eats has fewer requirements than Uber, this service is ideal for those who would otherwise be excluded from driving for Uber, including those who are still too young to drive for Uber. The car requirements are much less strict as well and no vehicle inspection is required, so it is perfect for those who do not have access to an Uber-accepted vehicle.
Another big benefit is that you’ll be able to make your own schedule and don’t need to deal with a boss, or even passengers. You can decide to drive at any time you wish and have no obligation to continue driving for Uber Eats if you want to quit or take an unplanned vacation. There are no minimum hours and no schedule, so for those who need flexibility and who prefer to work for themselves, this is a good option. You also don’t have to interact with passengers like you would when driving for Uber, making this ideal for those who don’t want strangers in their cars.
However, there are a few drawbacks to driving for Uber Eats. One major issue is that there is no guaranteed minimum pay per hour, and if the area you’re working in isn’t busy, your pay can dip to extremely low levels.

Therefore, you have to be sure you’re working during prime hours, meaning you will have a schedule of sorts if you want to make the job worth your time. You will also have to deal with traffic, waiting in restaurants, and waiting for the customer. You may also have trouble finding where you need to go or locating parking.

In short, Uber Eats is a good option if you don’t meet Uber’s requirements, need a flexible work opportunity, and value not having to deal with a boss or passengers.

How to Become an Uber Driver: Your Step-By-Step Guide

The lifestyle and potential earnings of being self-employed appeals to many individuals, which is why the rideshare industry is so attractive to such a large number of people. If you find yourself intrigued by the prospect, you’re probably wondering exactly how to become an Uber driver. If so, you’re in the right place! This article outlines everything you need to know about joining the Uber fleet and the processes involved.

How to Know if Uber Is the Right Match for You

Uber may not be the best option for every driver in the industry, so it’s important that you know more about the company before you spend more time learning how to become an Uber driver. Take a closer look at Uber and what you can expect from your experience as a driver, below.

Potential Earnings of Uber Drivers

There are multiple factors that play into your potential earnings as a rideshare driver. One of these considerations is the way Uber determines their driver pay. The company sets base rates for every location based on the type of Uber product you’re offering. For each ride, you’ll earn the base fare for every booking plus a certain amount per minute and mile of the journey.

During extremely busy periods, Uber offers drivers increased earning power with surge pricing. Surge fares are enforced when ride requests in an area exceed that of available drivers, so Uber temporarily increases their rates and offers drivers the chance to multiply their earnings. They also offer weekly promotions and bonuses. These bonuses can add several hundred dollars to a driver’s paycheck.

Uber Driver With Passengers

On top of your area’s Uber driver rates, you also need to consider the average demand of riders. Big cities offer a near constant need for drivers, but the demand in smaller locations fluctuates based on time of day, the day of the week, and the local events that are happening. As a result, it’s more of a challenge for rideshare drivers to estimate their potential earnings.

Uber’s Driver Restrictions

While Uber isn’t available in every city and town, they do offer the largest coverage area of any rideshare company, spanning more than 600 cities around the world. The company has set standards in place for drivers, so you need to meet those requirements in order to work for the company. Plus, local municipalities can also place their restrictions on the service, which makes the hiring process more strenuous for drivers in those areas.

Uber Driver Alternatives

There are many rideshare companies in the industry, but Uber and Lyft are the two most common. Their eligibility requirements are similar, but if you don’t qualify for one, you can still be approved by the other. However, delivery services, like Uber Eats and Postmates, have fewer restrictions in place. If you don’t qualify for Uber or Lyft, that doesn’t mean you’re out of the running to become a delivery driver for Doordash or Instacart.

The Benefits of Becoming an Uber Driver

While they’re currently top-dog in the rideshare industry, Uber knows that they’re battling with other companies for the attention of both riders and drivers. Fortunately, this competition means that the rideshare service offers benefits to earn and maintain their drivers’ loyalty. Some of these Uber offers include:

  • Rate transparency
  • Scheduling freedom
  • 24/7 support
  • Driver rewards

Here’s a closer look at each of these benefits.

Earning Transparency

One of the top advantages of driving for Uber is their commitment to transparent pricing. They’re honest from the get-go about the base rates for each area, and they also allow drivers to see the estimated fare for each trip before accepting the ride. Such transparency helps reduce the unknown for drivers so that they can better budget their time and money.

Set Your Own Hours

As a driver for Uber, you also have the ability to set your own hours. You can work full time or use the service to complement your earnings from another job. This quality allows Uber drivers the freedom to set and reach their financial goals without being held back.

Around-the-Clock Support

Uber also provides total support to their drivers. Their online help center provides numerous resources at the click of a button. Uber drivers can also access a support representative directly through their app any time of the day or night. Having around-the-clock support ensures that you don’t have to worry about finding help for whatever issues may arise.

Rewards

Uber also provides their drivers with numerous perks. These benefits include discounts on vehicle maintenance and cell phone service as well as financial management tools and health insurance. Currently, other rideshare companies can’t match the reward programs offered by Uber.

Eligibility Requirements for Becoming an Uber Driver

Before you find out how to become an Uber driver, it’s important that you verify if you meet the company’s minimum standards. The basic Uber driver requirements are as follows:

  • You need to be at least 21 years of age.
  • All drivers should have at least a year of experience behind the wheel, but drivers under 23 need to have had their driver’s license for at least three years.
  • Your vehicle can’t be more than 15 years old.
  • All Uber vehicles need to have at least four doors and room for four passengers.
  • Your vehicle must be fully insured, and you also need to be listed as a driver on the policy.
  • You can’t have received more than three speeding tickets within the last year.
  • Your criminal record must be free of violent crimes.

Uber will verify these requirements during the application process by running a complete background check. This task involves reviewing both your driving record and criminal history. To verify the safety and quality of your vehicle, they also require a full inspection before you begin working with their service.

How to Become an Uber Driver

Now that you know everything about the company and their requirements, you’re ready to learn how to become an Uber driver. Surprisingly, the process of getting into the driver’s seat under the Uber brand is fairly easy. In fact, it can be broken into three main phases:
