Texas Rideshare Insurance: Should i get rideshare insurance if I’m driving with Lyft or Uber?

That’s a good question. Although Lyft and Uber provide liability and property coverage, they do not provide collision coverage during period 1 (app on, no ride request) and only provide contingent collision coverage while you are on a trip. So, if your car is damaged while you’re waiting for a ride request to come in, Uber and Lyft will not cover you. Even worse, your regular personal auto insurance policy won’t cover you either if they know you’re a rideshare driver. In fact, they may cancel your policy if they find out you’re a rideshare driver, unless you have a rideshare insurance policy or a rideshare endorsement on your auto policy. So, if you want to be fully covered while driving for Uber and Lyft, get a rideshare insurance policy

You can likely find rideshare coverage in Texas for as little as a few bucks a month. Even better, you can probably find a rideshare policy with a lower deductible than either Uber ($1,000) or Lyft ($2,500). Better coverage with a lower deductible? Seems like purchasing rideshare coverage is a no-brainer. There is also the peace of mind that comes with having your own policy that covers everything, especially since the additional cost is relatively low.

So, if you’re driving for Uber or Lyft anywhere in Texas, please consider purchasing a decent rideshare insurance policy. It doesn’t matter if you’re driving in Fort Worth, El Paso, Plano, Lubbock, Dallas, or anywhere else in Texas, you’re best bet is to be fully covered.
